Penn State Riots: Twitter Reacts to Shocking Actions of Students
The Penn State campus has been engulfed in riots. Students heard that Joe Paterno was fired, and many of them gathered, and their overwhelming emotion reached a boiling point.
It has been a surreal scene that appears to be a climax for the past days of disgusting accusations, bloated media attention, gut-wrenching stories of victims and just general confusion and shock.
Given the melee and emotion of this scene it is no surprise that there is a wide spectrum of commentary on Twitter about the riots.

A light post was apparently the first victim of the students' frustrations.
While the students let out their inner wrestler, a wrestler let out his inner student.
Well, maybe he wasn't exactly talking like a student. This tweet is talking like a student
This next tweet illuminates the fact that sometimes rioting becomes the point more than the fact of what people are supposedly rioting over.
This previous fact becomes even more apparent as the person, whose injustice these people were supposedly rioting over, asks for them stop.
This tweeter seems to think that rioting is not the best career choice.
The fact that these riots were going on because a man accused of not alerting the police about a possible child molester, led this this tweeter to point out the fact that perhaps these students were using their violence to show support for the wrong people.
This person felt the need to point out that the real issue at hand here was much greater than football. He wanted to remind students that this in fact was not about football at all. Because, you know, if it was about football than rioting would be totally cool.
I think this tweet pretty much sums itself up.
I am getting the feeling that people on the outside of this riot just don't dig what the rioters are trying to say. Wait, what are they trying to say?
This tweeter feels that these students could be making a better use of their time by studying. Yeah, because if these particular students weren't busy rioting they would be steadfastly hitting the books.
Oh look! Another person surprised that people are rioting over the firing of Joe Paterno.
It's now pretty clear that these rioters are not gaining much public backing.
A lot of people had a lot to say about these riots. But leave it to Daniel Tosh to sum it all up in a hard-hitting and economical fashion.
Conclusion
It is easy to sit on the outside of something like this and condemn people for their actions. The fact that people would be riotously upset over this is unfathomable to most of us.
But remember, these are college kids. They are no different than college kids anywhere else. They are just living in a unique set of circumstances.
A man that a week ago, they had almost universally heralded as an icon has been under a blitz of disturbing accusations. It is hard for the mind to completely process all that information, or for people to change ideas of someone that are deeply ingrained.
Combine that with all of the added excitement and emotion that has surrounded them and their campus and you have one combustible mix.
In the end, I think my feelings most align with this tweeter.
This situation certainly doesn't need any more tragic stories. I hope everyone emerges from this safe and unharmed.
