The 10 Best Nicknames in MMA History

G DNov 6, 2011

The sport of mixed martial arts has undoubtedly become one of the most entertaining sports known to mankind today.

What makes MMA so entertaining is the fighters who enter the Octagon and give it everything they've got, holding nothing back.

And, not only are some of these fighters some of the coolest guys in the sport, but so are their nicknames.

Nearly every fighter in MMA today is not only recognized by their full name, but, of course, their nickname.

And while there are some fighters with the lamest nicknames we've ever heard, there are a few who have some of the sweetest we've ever heard as well.

The following slides display the 10 best nicknames in MMA history.

Let's take a look.

10. Brandon "The Truth" Vera

1 of 10

Brandon Vera was once believed to be the savior of the UFC heavyweight division, as he won the first eight fights of his career.

That all changed, as Vera has gone on to lose six of his last 10 fights.

However, Vera's nickname of "The Truth" continues to shine as one of the best nicknames in MMA today despite his sub-par performances.

9. Chan Sung "Korean Zombie" Jung

2 of 10

While Chan Sung Jung is far from being one of the best fighters in the sport of mixed martial arts, he does have one thing going for him, as his nickname is top notch.

The "Korean Zombie" has been recognized as one of the most liked nicknames since he entered the sport of MMA in June of 2007.

Jung might be Korean, but he's certainly no Zombie.

3 of 10

Mark Munoz entered the sport of mixed martial arts in July of 2007 and has been home to one of the best nicknames in the history of the sport.

4 of 10

Over the past several years, BJ Penn has established himself as a legitimate fighter in a variety of different weight classes.

Penn has been recently recognized for retiring following his loss to Nick Diaz at UFC 137.

And, despite being on the down spiral of his mixed martial arts career, Penn's nickname of "The Prodigy" ranks among the best in MMA history.

6. Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic

5 of 10

Mirko Cro Cop's nickname is so legitimate that fans often confuse his family last name with his nickname.

Just like I did above.

Filipovic has had one of the greatest nicknames of all-time since he first stepped in the Octagon.

"Cro Cop" ranks among the top of the best nicknames in MMA history.

5. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson

6 of 10

It's hard to deny just how great Quinton Jackson's nickname truly is.

Plain and simple, Jackson's nickname fits him exceptionally well.

4. Stephan "The American Psycho" Bonnar

7 of 10

Two things became popular when Stephan Bonnar squared off with Forrest Griffin at the Ultimate Fighter Season 1 Finale.

Himself and, of course, his nickname.

"The American Psycho" proved just how crazy he truly was when he stood toe to toe with Griffin, in what would go down as arguably the greatest fight of all time.

3. Carlos "The Natural Born Killer" Condit

8 of 10

Things haven't gone as planned for Carlos Condit as of late, when he was dropped and replaced from his championship bout with George St-Pierre by Nick Diaz.

But, on the bright side, Condit has one of the coolest nicknames in mixed martial arts history: "The Natural Born Killer."

Just don't take that literally.

2. Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell

9 of 10

Chuck Liddell was arguably the greatest knockout artist the sport of mixed martial arts has ever seen.

And, it's hard to recall a more memorable introduction than that of Liddell's done by the voice of the Octagon, Bruce Buffer.

Chuck "The Iceman..... Liddell."

1. Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva

10 of 10

Wanderlei Silva has been around the sport of mixed martial arts for as long as any of us can remember.

And, while Silva's career has seen its fair share of peaks and valleys, his nickname has remained near the top.
