LSU vs. Alabama: Tigers Clear Favorite in Championship Race After Overtime Win

Michael MillNov 6, 2011

Last night's game between No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama was considered by many to be the true National Championship game this season.

I don't know if anybody really expected it to come down to a final score of 6-6 at the end of regulation.

It was one of the greatest defensive battles in the history of college football. It ended at a final score of 9-6 in overtime in favor of the LSU Tigers.

If there was any question prior to this game that these were the top two teams in the country, those questions were answered in dramatic fashion.

The Tigers are now the obvious favorites in the closing weeks of the 2011 college football season.

LSU boasts one of the more complete teams in the college football world. They have a shutdown defense and an explosive offense.

The fact that they scored only nine points against Alabama is nothing but a credit to the Crimson Tide defense.

The Tigers are currently the No. 2-ranked defense in the nation, but also have the 13th best scoring offense in the country.

Obviously, those totals will change after yesterday's showdown in Alabama.

LSU now controls its own destiny in the coming weeks.

Next week they face an easy opponent in Western Kentucky followed by a game against Ole Miss.

Then LSU will have their hands full in their season finale against Arkansas. After tonight's game, it appears that the Tigers should have no problem handling Arkansas, who was crushed by Alabama earlier this year.

LSU controls their own destiny.

Now we will wait to see how things will pan out and who their opponent will be in the real National Championship.

I'm crossing my fingers for things to fall in place for a rematch with Alabama.
