Kyle Busch's Bone-Headed Move Gets Him Suspended for Sprint Cup Race
Kyle Busch is a wild card on the track every week, but it was NASCAR that had the ace up their sleeve.
That ace up the NASCAR governing body’s sleeve was the ability and willingness to suspend the driver for the Nationwide series even at Texas Motor speedway and, more importantly, the Sprint Cup Series even.
This uncommon suspension comes on the heels of another Kyle Busch-being-Kyle moment in which he took a Truck championship-contending racer in Ron Hornaday out during a caution.
NASCAR president Mike Helton said Saturday morning to Yahoo! Sports:
"(Busch being parked for Friday night's race is) done under section 9.12 of the rulebook, that gives NASCAR the authority to react during a race weekend. And following the event and after a good deal of conversation and discussion, NASCAR has decided to maintain that parked position on the driver of the 18 truck for the balance of the weekend. So basically what that means is that Kyle Busch will not be participating today or tomorrow in the NASCAR event here in Texas.
"
This is one of the ugliest incidents Kyle Busch has been involved with in his career, and it’s a perfect example of his arrogance and selfishness hurting someone other than himself.
With Hornaday going head first into the wall, the risk associated with the reckless act made it easy for NASCAR to pull the plug on Busch for this race weekend. That means any hope that the currently seventh place in the Sprint Cup Series Championship had for a title will be out the window with a big zero in terms of points.
This is a big enough punishment from NASCAR to warrant team-mandated punishment, and it will be interesting to see if this is the extent of the punishments.
