5 Reasons Anderson Silva Must Give Sonnen a Title Shot

G DOct 31, 2011

It was arguably the greatest comeback in UFC history when the world's greatest fighter found himself on his back with just under two minutes remaining in the fifth and final round.

Anderson Silva had been dominated the entire fight by Chael Sonnen and was in dire need of a finish as time quickly ticked away.

Then, out of no where, Silva connected on a Triangle Armbar that allowed him to remain the UFC Middleweight champion.

Now, Sonnen is demanding a rematch, but Silva hasn't been too quick to accept his offer.

So, the following slides display five reasons why Anderson Silva must give Chael Sonnen his rematch.

Let's take a look.

His Performance at UFC 136

Following his loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 117, UFC fans across the globe didn't know what to expect in Sonnen's return against Brian Stann at UFC 136.

Well, Sonnen proved his dominance over Silva wasn't a fluke by any stretch of the imagination

In fact, at one point, Sonnen had Stann thrown over his back before slamming him to the ground.

Sonnen went on to finish Stann via Arm Triangle Choke in one of the most impressive victories of his career.

The Fans Want to See It

To say the fans were shocked while watching Silva vs. Sonnen at UFC 117 would be an understatement.

It was the first time in years that a man stood toe-to-toe with arguably the greatest mixed martial artists of all-time.

Then, fans saw the victory slip right out of Sonnen's hands as Silva connected on a submission with two minutes remaining in the fight.

Silva vs. Sonnen II is one of the most anticipated fights in UFC history.

He Dominated

3 of 5

Despite being choked out in the fifth and final round of his championship bout with Silva, Sonnen dominated the entire fight.

In fact, it was the worst beating Silva's ever received as he was rocked, taken down, and ground and pounded.

Even the rare occasion where Sonnen was taken down, he escaped immediately regaining control of the fight.

After a performance like that, Sonnen needs a rematch.

He Deserves It

Let's be honest, a lot of fighters in the UFC believe they deserve a title shot.

And, truth is, most of them don't.

But, Sonnen is that rare exception as he's been declared the consensus No. 2 Middleweight in the entire world.

Other than Silva and his trainer Ed Soares, there's not a UFC fan that will say Sonnen doesn't deserve a rematch for the Middleweight championship.

Millions to Be Made

5 of 5

And, when it really comes down to it, there's no doubt this fight will be made based upon one simple word...

Money.

There hasn't been a more talked about fight over the past decade than Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen II.

In fact, even those who aren't mixed martial arts fans have become interested in this rematch as Sonnen has brought their attention to the sport.

The UFC has potential to make millions if these two Middleweights were to square off in a rematch.
