After arguably the most impressive victory of his mixed martial arts career at UFC 137, Donald Cerrone continues to climb up the Lightweight rankings.

Cerrone, who has now won his sixth consecutive fight, will sit and wait for his next opponent to be announced.

And what better opponent for the "Cowboy" than the electrifying Nate Diaz?

While Diaz may not be on the level of his brother, Nick, he remains a top Lightweight in the UFC today.

The following slides display three reasons why Donald Cerrone and Nate Diaz should fight each other next.

Let's take a look.

A Potential Fight of the Night

Cerrone has proven to be one of the most entertaining fighters not only in the Lightweight division, but the entire UFC.

In fact, in Cerrone's last nine fights, seven of them have resulted in either Fight, Submission or Knockout of the Night.

Diaz, a submission mastermind, isn't too far behind when it comes to giving the fans what they want.

In Diaz's last 11 bouts, he's taken home honors for Fight or Submission of the Night on seven different occasions.

Cerrone vs. Diaz has potential to be one of the best fights of any fight card.

Winner Gets Put into Title Talks

While Cerrone and Diaz have established themselves as legitimate 155-pound fighters, they haven't reached the top five of their division just yet.

However, if these two were to square off, the winner would more than likely be thrown into the discussion for a title shot.

A win over Diaz would be the biggest victory of Cerrone's career, while the same could probably be said for Diaz.

Depending on how impressive the victory would be, Cerrone or Diaz could put themselves next in line for a Lightweight title shot.

Prove Who's the Better Submission Artist

While both Cerrone and Diaz are exceptional, well-rounded fighters, their obvious strengths lie in the submission game.

Nearly every time the "Cowboy" enters the Octagon, he leaves victorious by tapping his opponent out.

13 of Cerrone's 17 career MMA victories have come by way of submission.

Diaz, who is just as good if not a better submission artist, has submitted 10 of his opponents in just 14 of his total victories.

The Cesar Gracie product could very well be the toughest matchup Cerrone has had to date.
