UFC 137 Results: Reaction from Twitter to GSP, Nick Diaz and BJ Penn
Twitter has become a hotbed for mixed martial arts news, particularly regarding the UFC. Last night's UFC 137 pay-per-view was no different as the Tweets flooded in following an amazing main event between Nick Diaz and BJ Penn, which was followed by Diaz calling out welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
UFC President Dana White got things started with his Tweet immediately following the pay-per-view, where he reacted to the main event between Diaz and Penn.
UFC fighter and on-air personality Kenny Florian was not quite as vulgar with his response to the fight, but he agreed with his boss. Florian has been on the losing end of a fight with BJ Penn before, so he knows what kind of fighter Diaz was beating up last night.

Diaz looked amazing, but BJ Penn's efforts did not go unnoticed by his co-workers. Future UFC Hall of Famer and former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz spoke up in support of Penn, who fought through a tremendous amount of damage to force a judges' decision.
Former pro wrestling promoter and friend of Brock Lesnar, Paul Heyman pointed out that the fun was just getting started. The outspoken Diaz was about to be allowed to say whatever he wanted to on live television.
In the post-fight interview, Nick Diaz spoke out against the man who he was originally supposed to fight, Georges St-Pierre. Diaz was booted from the main event when he failed to show up for numerous scheduled press appearances, with Carlos Condit taking his place in the main event. However, St-Pierre himself pulled out of the event a few weeks prior due to an injury.
An unhappy Diaz bluntly stated that he believes that not only is St-Pierre ducking him, but that he also doesn't think that the welterweight champion is actually injured.
MMA legend Bas Rutten responded to Diaz's claim, noting that he believes that GSP is indeed injured, but that he also thinks Diaz is just trying to create some additional controversy.
But while most people left satisfied with the main event, MMA Junkie's Derek Bolender pointed out that it completely changed the perception of what was otherwise a relatively boring event. The fights on Spike were pretty entertaining, but the main card was a bit of a letdown.
Finally, former championship boxer and world renowned promoter Oscar De La Hoya subtly tweeted against MMA, while adding that his sport remains the biggest combat sport. Mixed martial arts does have more total pay-per-view buys on the year, but De La Hoya is right. At this point, only boxing, through the hands of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, is able to get into the million-buys category with any consistency.
The event was a success overall, though, and these Tweets are just further proof that Twitter is becoming the place to find the best UFC results and reactions as quickly as possible.
