Nick Diaz: Learn Your Role and Shut Your Mouth

G DOct 30, 2011

Nick Diaz entered UFC 137 as arguably the most disrespectful fighter in mixed martial arts today.

And, as we've seen, Diaz lived up to his reputation by his actions at the pre-fight weigh-in, where he head-butted former UFC champion BJ Penn.

When action finally began, it was Penn who sent a message to Diaz early by rocking him in the first round.

Diaz bounced back by manhandling his opponent in the second frame, landing body shots and uppercuts to nearly every part of Penn's body.

In the third and final round, Diaz continued his dominance as he began swinging for the fences.

Penn escaped the round but it was too late.

Diaz was declared victorious via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-7).

But it was following his historical win when Diaz went back to his normal self.

Just seconds after defeating Penn, Diaz was interviewed by UFC color commentator Joe Rogan, where he called out current welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

Diaz stated, “I don’t think Georges is hurt. I think he’s scared.”

Diaz went on to add, “He’s scared to fight everyone right now.”

Scared?

Coming from the man who blew off two consecutive press conferences leading up to his championship bout with St-Pierre at UFC 137?

Diaz was later dismissed due to his actions by UFC President Dana White.

The only one who was scared was, in fact, Diaz.

And for Diaz to call out the current UFC champ, he'll have to do more than defeat a man who is on the down slope of his career.

Diaz may be on an 11-fight win streak, but only one of those opponents were in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

On the other hand, St-Pierre has dominated nearly every welterweight in the division, something Diaz has yet to do.

And, let's not forget, in Diaz's last stint in the UFC, he posted a sub par record of 6-4.

Nick Diaz needs to learn his role and shut his mouth.
