Fantasy Football Rankings Week 8: Baltimore Ravens and More Locks on Defense

Thad NovakOct 30, 2011

After some surprising performances from defenses like Jacksonville in Week 7, the top defenses for this weekend feature some more familiar names. This trio should rack up fantasy points in Week 8:

Baltimore Ravens

Rarely a bad defense to have on your side, the Ravens face a favorable Week 8 matchup on their home field. Arizona has a severely pass-heavy offense, and QB Kevin Kolb hasn’t exactly justified his enormous offseason hype.

Kolb has thrown as many picks as touchdowns thus far, and against Baltimore’s fearsome blitz, that ratio isn’t likely to improve. The Ravens corners won’t have an easy time against the peerless Larry Fitzgerald, but Kolb will throw enough errant balls to other receivers that Baltimore will get its turnovers.

New York Giants

The latest beneficiaries of Chad Henne’s season-ending injury will be the G-Men, who get to host Miami and its stumbling offense. New York already has one of the league’s most dangerous pass-rushes, and Matt Moore has shown little ability to handle even an inferior defense like Denver’s.

Moore has tossed just one TD and three INTs on the year, and has little running game to take the pressure off. Expect plenty of sacks and, likely, a turnover or two on Sunday.

Kansas City Chiefs

No defense comes into Week 8 hotter than Kansas City’s, which scored two TDs on six interceptions last week against Oakland. With a raucous Monday night Arrowhead Stadium crowd behind them, they’ll have their A-game for their meeting with San Diego.

The Chargers, meanwhile, limp into the matchup with offensive standouts Marcus McNeill, Mike Tolbert and Malcom Floyd all battling injuries. With Pro Bowl guard Kris Dielman already out with a concussion, San Diego will likely be out of sync and prone to more mistakes than usual against the Chiefs.
