Charles Taylor, Jr. is quite the athlete. Sure, in recent years we've become somewhat saturated with monster dunks. Nothing really shocks us anymore.
But let's look at a few things here:
1) Taylor is in high school. I know that we see some impressive dunks from high school athletes, but it's certainly worth noting when it happens.
2) Taylor is 6'2". I know that guys like Vince Carter, LeBron James and Michael Jordan have impressed us with dunks in the past, but those guys are all tall.
When you see guys like that walking down the street, you assume that they're basketball players. Can we say the same thing about a 6'2" person? I really don't think so.
And these aren't just powerful dunks. This is an amazing display of athletic skill and pure leaping ability.
No, it doesn't really matter if you can do a fancy dunk in a game. Two points is two points. I get that, and actually find dunks overrated from time to time.
But if I was a college basketball coach, I would be very interested in watching these videos. I don't need the "wow factor" on the court, but that athleticism is too great to ignore.
I don't care if his AAU career isn't that vast, nor do I care about whatever else he can do. This video is a tremendous sign of athleticism.
If you get a player like that on your roster, very good things can happen.
Maybe it's a gamble and maybe it's not. But looking at this video, I believe that it's a gamble that almost any college coach should take.
