WWE Vengeance 2011: All the News, Highlights and Reaction to Epic PPV
The 2011 installment of the Vengeance Pay-Per-View was one of the best in recent memory, and it’s good to see the WWE has really started going in a new direction with how things are done.
While the WWE has done a terrible job over the last few years pushing their product, it is really looking like the company has turned a corner.
The PPVs the WWE would put on were absolutely atrocious, but now the shows have direction and the outcomes help lead the storylines.
These are the bright spots of a PPV that wasn’t expected to be much, but defied those expectations nonetheless.
No. 1: Big Show and Mark Henry Break the Ring
I heard tons of people across the internet wrestling community calling the Big Show vs. Mark Henry World Championship match well done. Were we watching the same bout?
These two monsters have nothing to offer in the ring, and while once Big Show was athletic, those days are far and gone. This was an absolute train wreck until…
When the ring broke beneath these two giants, it was an instant classic moment that you will never forget as a wrestling fan. What I like most about it was that they sold that both men were hurt badly, and the match ended.
The ring breaking was a great moment, but it was too weak of a match to remember it for anything but the collapse. And what’s up with big show getting hurt all the time? He’s wrestling’s Felix Jones.
No. 2: John Cena Loses a Last Man Standing Match
There is no way that John Cena could ever lose a Last Man Standing match, he is the WWE’s equivalent of Super Man!
It took four men and a WWE title shot to the head, but Alberto Del Rio defied the odds and handed John Cena a rare loss in what would be considered his ideal match.
As Hulk Hogan Jr., John Cena can never be held down, but it was the help of The Miz and R-Truth as well as Ricardo Rodriguez that set up Del Rio to smash Cena with the title belt.
It had to be a dirty way to win for Del Rio because the WWE can’t make Cena look weak, but the fans are showing just how much they dislike the star.
No. 3: WWE Teases The Rock’s Return
That’s right folks, The Rock will be returning to the WWE for 2011’s Survivor Series PPV, and for the first time in seven years, he will be competing as a superstar.
It’s been too long since the WWE had the talent of The Rock in the ring, but it will be interesting to see what kind of wrestling rust he has to knock off.
The Rock will be teaming with John Cena against The Miz and R-Truth, and this will begin his push to the main event of WrestleMania where he will fight John Cena.
I can’t wait for the mic battles between Cena and The Rock. EPIC!
No. 4: The Return of Kevin Nash
Let’s start this off by saying that seeing Kevin Nash last night on Raw showed that he is in much better shape since his first return to the WWE, and the fear of him working a match has diminished a bit.
It was inevitable that Nash would come back, but the time and place has been shrouded in mystery. Vengeance was Nash’s as he attacked his former friend Triple H, giving Miz and R-Truth time to double team CM Punk and steal the victory.
Nash then rolled Triple H into the ring and jack knifed him into November, starting what could become a very violent feud that could carry for a long time.
Or it could be the beginning of the nWo!
No. 5: Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes
While this match could have been better, Cody Rhodes put on a batter show than many non-fans thought he would. The match didn’t blow anyone away like they had hoped, but it offers much hope that a feud could work.
If Rhodes can just clean up some of the spots when he and Randy Orton looked sluggish, the feud could be easily be one of the best in the WWE.
Both stars may be getting over big with the crowd, but there is one person not on board with Rhodes use of a certain submission move during the bout with RKO.
