Chael Sonnen’s behavior has been uncharacteristic when talking about his upcoming fight with Brian Stann. Sonnen, a man who typically talks lots of trash and some if it completely nonsensical, has had nothing but nice things to say about his opponent.
While Stann is a man who should be very well respected, Sonnen’s behavior before this fight has left many fans questioning Sonnen’s commitment in this fight.
Sonnen hasn’t fought in over a year. His last fight with Anderson Silva has become infamous amongst fight fans.
One of the big questions that must be asked going into this fight is whether or not cage rust is going to play a part.
The short answer to that question is no. Cage rust isn’t going to play a part in this fight.
That doesn’t mean Sonnen is for sure going to win, but if he were to lose it wouldn’t be because of cage rust.
Sonnen has continued to train while absent from the octagon. He spent lots of time helping Yushin Okami prepare for his fight against Silva last August, and he has surely continued training after helping out Okami.
It’s important to remember that Sonnen has been in the fight game since 1997. Being away from the cage isn’t something new to the seasoned fighter.
Stann is going to be a big challenge for Sonnen. The former WEC light heavyweight champion has lots of power in his fists, a great chin and has been training his wrestling for two years now.
This fight will go one of two ways: Either Sonnen’s wrestling will prove to be too much for Stann or Stann will be able to stuff the takedown and finish Sonnen on the feet.
