Ohio State Football: Why Urban Meyer to the Buckeyes Is Still a Real Possibility
Urban Meyer has long said that he considers two schools to be his dream job: Ohio State and Notre Dame.
But with Brian Kelly already at Notre Dame, the two-time national champion coach is far and away the favorite for the job at Ohio State.
The problem with the job right now is the uncertainty surrounding the program due to the incompetence of the athletic department and the mess that Jim Tressel left behind.

But the question truly is, when has there ever been a time where a job opening is perfect?
The answer is never because if the job was going smoothly, 99 percent of the time there is no opening.
Kelly went to Notre Dame amidst years of depressing results, and even Nick Saban took over Alabama when the job wasn't exactly glamorous (Rich Rodriguez turned it down).
And the reality of the situation is if Meyer doesn't take the job now, he might not have another chance at the job for about 10-20 years.
Meyer's desire for the job is certainly tangible, as he has, among many things in his home, a portrait of Woody Hayes.
He is from Ohio and coached as a graduate assistant at Ohio State for two seasons.
More importantly, he is the type of coach that can continue the dominance Ohio State has had in the Big Ten in the past decade up until this season.
While it's true that he may have to weather the post-Tattoogate penalties, there are prices to pay to reach dreams.
He wouldn't exactly be coming to Ohio State with a bare cupboard.
The products of the cupboard are raw, but can be come great with the right coaching.
And with Meyer there would be something that Ohio State hasn't had since the John Cooper era: competent offensive coaching.
Money is not an issue with Ohio State being among the highest revenue-generating athletic departments in the country.
The stress of coaching in the Big Ten as well is far less than coaching in the SEC, as the number of quality opponents he will have to face in a season is nearly cut in half by comparison.
Really, the only thing stopping Meyer to Ohio State from happening is what the NCAA will do to the school.
At this point, scholarship losses are almost a given.
But the other given is that the entire coaching staff, with the possible exception of Mike Vrabel, might be looking for new jobs regardless of how they perform.
With the scandals that have damaged the program, odds are that the university will look to clean house in athletic administration and start fresh, including Gene Smith.
The reality is there is no quick fix because of what Jim Tressel did to this program.
But if Urban Meyer says the job is his dream, that means there is nothing that should steer him from his dream.
If Nick Saban can overcome NCAA probation and a loss to Louisiana-Monroe before launching the Alabama dynasty, then certainly Urban Meyer can put up with a couple of tough seasons if it means another Buckeye dynasty.
