Floyd Mayweather: Does Amir Khan Pose a Threat to Money's Unblemished Record?
It looks like we may know Floyd “Money” Mayweather’s next opponent.
His first name isn’t Manny.
Amir Khan has told reporters that Mayweather extended an invitation to move up to the welterweight division and take on the highly controversial, yet undefeated champ.
Khan has a December 10th match against Lamont Peterson in Washington D.C. before he can fight Floyd, but it sounds like he’s already looking ahead:
"Talks are already taking place. Mayweather has agreed to fight me but we can’t look too far ahead. I am moving to 147 and maybe my third fight at the weight (will be against Floyd). I think it is a timing game where a young, hungry fighter comes up and takes him out. I want to clean up boxing. He talks a lot of trash, disrespects fighters, disrespects presenters and I’d never do that, he should be the face of boxing in a good way not a bad way.
"
Peterson has a stellar 29-1-1 (15) record to his name and will be a formidable opponent. I don’t think he’s ever head-butted a guy, which is a good thing.
Khan will be 25 by the time a fight takes place and has the quickness to keep up with the aging Mayweather.
The problem is, at 5'10", his reach is not nearly the same as Victor Ortiz and Mayweather can typically counter the quicker, smaller guys.
Khan likes to move around the ring at a fast pace and hit his opponents with a flurry of punches in a short amount of time. Unfortunately for him, Mayweather is as good as it gets when it comes to protecting himself and being able to counter-attack.
I expect the sometimes out-of-control Khan to get caught up in the moment and attempt to land the big knockout punch. He will miss badly and Floyd will make him pay in a big way.
Sorry boxing fans, Mayweather’s going to be fighting yet another lesser opponent as we continue to get deprived of the fight the entire world wants to see.
