Jon Jones, Rampage Jackson and The 10 Fighters Fans Can't Get Enough Of
The two types of fighters fans can’t get enough of are: The proverbial question mark and the big mouth. Most fighters with a big mouth do it to get inside their opponent's head, while others do it to sell fights, and yet others seem to live in an alternate reality they’re forever trying to explain.
Then there are some fighters that people can never seem to agree on. Are they the greatest ever? Are they the next big thing? Who’s overrated and who deserves all of the praise they get?
These are the types of fighters that fight fans just can’t get enough of. They’re the fighters who are discussed until blue in the face, and they’re one of the reasons MMA has been exploding in popularity.
Silva is inarguably one of the best fighters ever to have graced the sport, and he is always a fan favorite. The only question about him lately has been whether he should retire.
Silva has lost three of his past five fights, the most recent of which was to Chris Leben, in which Silva was knocked out at only 27 seconds of the first round.
Is it time for Silva to go the way of so many other greats like Chuck Liddell or Randy Couture?
On Dec. 30, Alistair Overeem will face off against another highly discussed fighter, Brock Lesnar. Since making the move to heavyweight, Alistair hasn’t lost a fight.
After his unimpressive performance against Fabricio Werdum, people have been questioning the level of talent Overeem has faced at heavyweight. Is Overeem’s record at heavyweight padded?
Brock Lesnar is one of the biggest question marks in MMA today. After receiving a title match very early in his career, people have questioned the Midwestern behemoth to no end.
While he is absolutely a superior wrestler, people are questioning Lesnar’s ability to be an actual MMA practitioner.
Can Lesnar hang with more well-rounded fighters?
Fedor Emelianenko is a fighter who seems to polarize fight fans more than almost any other fighter out there. With an absolutely astounding record of 31-4-1, Emelianenko has had success that is hard to argue with.
Many people (including Dana White) have found ways to question Fedor’s skill level. Is Emelianenko one of the greatest of all time?
Anderson Silva is the only fighter who doesn’t seem to be a proverbial question mark, nor does he create controversy whenever he speaks.
Fight fans can’t get enough of Silva for one reason, because he is so amazing to watch. He is a one of a kind, and will go down as a legend in the sport.
Georges St. Pierre
Georges St. Pierre has become one of the most debated fighters in MMA. People’s biggest problem seems to be that he puts on boring fights, despite the fact that he wins.
Somehow, the fact that he is a boring fighter has led people to believe that GSP isn’t talented. Is GSP one of the best fighters ever? Or will he be remembered as a boring fighter?
Chael Sonnen lives in an alternate reality that, unfortunately for him, no one else is able to comprehend.
When talking about his fight with Anderson Silva, Sonnen was quoted as saying “In what parallel universe can you punch a man 300 times, he wraps his legs around your head for eight seconds and they declare him the winner?!”
Clearly Sonnen believes he’s capable of living without oxygen, and it’s his endless supply of quotes like these that make him one of the most talked-about MMA fighters.
After missing not one, but two, press conferences for his now-canceled title match with GSP, Nick Diaz has become one of the most discussed fighters in all of MMA. Nick Diaz is a very talented fighter who just can’t seem to stay out of trouble.
Love him or hate him, Diaz could be a very prominent, successful fighter, if only he could work within the confines of the business.
Rampage Jackson knows how to talk trash. Any time Jackson has a fight, he’s sure to give his fans some great footage and memorable quotes.
It is Jackson’s ability to remain humble and thankful, despite his impressive amount of trash talk, that makes him so charming.
Jon “Bones” Jones is currently the biggest question mark in the UFC. There’s no doubting that Jones is very talented, but is he as great as people have been making him out to be?
Unfortunately for Jones, a win over Rampage will not silence the critics. Not yet.
Is Jon Jones everything he’s been made out to be? Only time will tell.
