Manny Pacquiao: Floyd Mayweather Is Afraid of Epic Showdown

Andrew KulhaJun 7, 2018

I’m not sure what’s wrong with Floyd Mayweather, but I do know what he is afraid of.

As much as he talks, his actions point to the fact that he does not want to fight Manny Pacquiao.

Personally, I don’t blame him.

Mayweather may be able to talk to talk, but I don’t think he can walk it against Pacquiao. There’s a reason Pacquiao is the best, and I think Mayweather is terrified to find out.

Yet, he continues to do what he does best and flap his gums.

He says he can’t wait to fight Pacquiao; he talks as if he will beat him down and that there won’t even be a contest, but he’s done nothing to back up his words.

They always say that you shouldn’t talk the talk if you can’t walk the walk, and Mayweather is a perfect example of that sentiment.

Josh Slagter of the Grand Rapids Press writes about Mayweather’s latest smack talk:

"

Back in July, Mayweather said he "absolutely" wants to fight Pacquiao, and spoke about the topic again Tuesday in a sitdown with the media.

"I'm not ducking or dodging nobody, never have," Mayweather said. They say this guy who been beating and dominating for 16 years, he's scared of a guy. OK.

"Have I ever contradicted myself? Absolutely, I'm only human. When I get up on the podium and say 'Yeah, Pacquiao, you next' if that's all you want to hear, that's all I've got to give you. That's what you all want to hear anyway."

What Mayweather seemed most bothered by regarding Pacquiao on Tuesday was the Filipino's star rise in boxing, in terms of weight class, punching power and stardom.

"When you see an athlete like Michael Jordan in college, you see he's going to be great," Mayweather said. "When you see LeBron James, you say he's going to be great. You see (Muhammad) Ali, you see Sugar Ray Leonard, you see all these fighters, even myself, you say from the beginning, he's going to be great. A guy doesn't (turn) 24 or 25 and just become great."

"

Mayweather may claim that he’s not ducking or dodging Pacquiao, but then why haven’t they fought yet?!

It seems like Mayweather just comes out with excuse after excuse, and the one time they even got close to a bout he ducked out.

Simply put, I believe that Mayweather is scared to put his reputation on the line.

He’s built up so much hype regarding the fight, and he’s trashed Pacquiao in almost every way possible.

I think he’s gone too far though, and he knows it.

He’s built himself up so much that he has no other choice but to win, and he knows that if Pacquiao comes out and wipes the floor with him, he will become the biggest joke the sport has ever seen.

Mayweather is far too proud to allow that to happen, so he’ll continue to avoid the fight.

It’s obvious that he’d rather be known as someone who we think can’t back up his words, rather than the fighter we know can’t back up his words.

Right now we just think Pacquiao would destroy him, but if Mayweather actually does fight him we will end up knowing it.

Whether or not we will ever see this fight still remains to be seen, but there is no doubt in my mind that Mayweather is afraid of it.
