San Diego Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding was knocked out of the game on the opening kick of their game against the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, and the Chargers are now set to be without the kicker for the remainder of the season.
Chargers punter Mike Scifries did a good enough job taking over the kicking duties for the rest of the Vikings game and could be the permanent starter for the Chargers this year.
The latest on the Kaeding injury is that he may have a torn ACL. which would obviously end his season.
According to SB Nation the early tests on Kaeding's knee are that he has in fact torn his ACL.
When's He Ready to Return?
If an MRI confirms what the early tests have told the doctors, Kaeding would be out for the season with a torn ACL and he'd hope to be ready for a return next season.
Kaeding's injury has little impact on the fantasy owners, as there enough kickers who can rack up the same amount of points Kaeding would be expected to earn. He compiled 115 points in ESPN's Fantasy Football League, and there was 10 players who scored between 100 and 115 points last year.
What They're Saying
The media has put their two cents in on the the Kaeding injury. Here are a couple examples of what they had to say.
NFL reporter Jason La Confora took to his Twitter to comment on the Kaeding injury:
Chargers initial test reveal likely torn left ACL for K Nate Kaeding. MRI in the AM, but they are not hopeful.
The San Diego Tribune's Charger beat reporter took to his Twitter and said:
k espn and nfl network reporting kaeding has torn acl. i'm told there's nothing definitive but "doesn't look good" 4 him 2 kick any time soon.
