UFC 137: Nick Diaz No-Shows UFC Press Conference with GSP

Before the UFC signed Nick Diaz earlier this year, UFC President Dana White made it clear that he believed Diaz had every opportunity to be one of the biggest stars in the sport if he only played, “the game.”

When he chose to book the former Strikeforce welterweight champion against current UFC champion Georges St-Pierre, it was likely with the assumption that Diaz was finally ready to play.

It turns out, though, that the presumption of a suddenly more mature Nick Diaz might have been a bit presumptuous as The Canadian Press has reported that Diaz no-showed today’s scheduled UFC 137 press conference with Georges St-Pierre.

The UFC has not yet offered a reason for Diaz’s absence from the presser, but it is not anything new for Diaz to disregard the media.

In addition, apparently no one told champion Georges St-Pierre that his opponent was not going to be in attendance.

"I don't know why he did not show up. Maybe he has personal issues, I have no idea," St-Pierre told The Canadian Press.

"I know they bought two flights (tickets) for him and he didn't show up. I have no idea. I can't talk about it because I don't know what's going on in his life. Hopefully he'll be OK and I'll see him in the cage."

The champion did admit, however, that he was not impressed by Diaz missing the press conference.

"I'm a little bit mad, because it's a little bit unfair," he added. "I missed days of training to come here. Plus jet lag and everything. I think it's not fair—he should do the same thing that I do."

Diaz’s complete lack of respect for the media continues and could realistically be the thing that keeps him from becoming a big star in the sport. If there is not an excuse from Diaz’s camp as to why their fighter did not attend the press conference, look for Dana White to come down hard on him at some point.
