WWE Guest-Booker: How I'd Book the WWE Championship Up Till Summerslam, Part 1

Jim KiJun 7, 2018

Ever since I was a young fan of the WWE, I've often wanted to be in the position of creative decision-making. All the time I would speculate on current angles, form my angles and feuds, and even try and simulate those in wrestling video games. Now that I'm in such a postion where I can share my creative ideas, I shall do just that.

I'll be splitting this article into parts, with this being Part 1. If people like it, I'll continue. If not, well, at least I gave it a shot. So, starting with the August 1st edition of Monday Night RAW, here's how I would book the WWE Championship up until Summerslam 2011.

August 1st Edition of RAW:

This is the first night after CM Punk's anti-climatic return, and we're expecting Triple H to do something about the fact that he now has 2 WWE Champions. Hunter comes out to start off the show, and predictably announces a title unification match between Cena and Punk... tonight on RAW. Punk comes out, followed by Cena, and the two cut a nice promo and leave.

Fast forward an hour, and Cena-Punk II is underway. The two put on another 5-star quality match, which ends with Punk scoring a clean roll-up pin on Cena from out of nowhere. The crowd blows up as they celebrate the victory of the first Unified WWE Champion... and then Del Rio's music hits.

He rushes down to the ring, dodges a preemptive kick from Punk, and nails him in the head with the briefcase, knocking him out. Del Rio cashes in, the bell rings, and he goes for the quick pin-fall. After a kick-out from Punk (which really gets the crowd going), Del Rio locks in the arm-bar. After a while, Punk passes out from pain, and Del Rio is crowed the new Unified WWE Champion.

As he celebrates, Rey Mysterio comes out and starts brawling with Del Rio, incited by both being in the championship scene and Del Rio unmasking him at MITB. The Miz is next to come out, attacking Mysterio for costing him the WWE Championship last week on RAW. Alex Riley is the last to burst out into the ring and goes after the Miz. Cena eventually gets involved in the 5-man brawl, followed by Punk who eventually regains consciousness. All 6 men stand in the ring battling it out, hitting their finishers, and letting all hell break loose.

Eventually, Triple H's music hits and he storms onto the stage, clearly infuriated. He complains that he's had this job for only a few weeks and everything seems to be going to hell -- that "every time he hits a domino, they all start to fall over". Hunter's anger grows through his speech, as he berates all six men in the ring on a McMahon-level of hate for making his job difficult ; however, after blowing his casket, a sinister grin extends across the Game's face.Ā

Triple H says he knows exactly what to do about this situation.

"At Summerslam", Helmsley proclaims, "It's gonna be the Unified WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio, defending against John Cena, and Rey Mysterio, and Alex Riley, and The Miz... and CM Punk... in the ELIMINATION CHAMBER!"

Everyone in the ring erupts with some sort of exaggerated emotion. Del Rio and Miz flip you-know-what, Mysterio and Riley look fearful for their lives; John Cena rests his head in his hand (and you know he's thinking "ah Jesus..."); and CM Punk, the dark-horse here, stares right at Triple H with an even more sinister grin. The show then cuts to credits.

So, what do you think? Here are some pointers of clarification:

1. Triple H is slowly making his way to a heel turn (but that's not until past Summerslam).

2. The Elimination Chamber has been cut as a PPV, due to low buy-rates, and has returned to being a draw at special times - this is indeed very special time.

3. CM Punk losing consciousness would be similar to Stone Cold losing consciousness during his match with Bret Hart at WM14. It shows Punk's valor and puts him over with both the adult audience (even more than he already is) and the underage audience (who will find something to cheer in Punk's Cena-like morale).

4. Alex Riley will always have a reason to attack/hate the Miz. So he stays.

Thanks for reading (even if you just skimmed it).
