Oregon Football: Kelly Talks Football, Doesn't Discuss Lyles at Pac-12 Media Day

Joe PenkalaJul 26, 2011

So many reporters showed up for Pac-12 media day and many wasted their opportunities to discuss football with Chip Kelly.

Throughout his time with the media, Kelly was asked question after question about the Will Lyles situation, but Kelly would not bite or go further.

Oregon and the program are under a gag order and they know that they cannot talk about the investigation that is currently going on.

Kelly did say, "I would love to talk about it, and when we have a chance after the report comes out, I will be able to clear up any questions that anyone has about the whole situation."

For the time being, Kelly has to stick to football and is unable to offer up any response or defense to the situation that has the Ducks program under a microscope.

While he did not talk about the recruiting scandal, Kelly did mention the positives that are going on at Oregon.

Kelly began to talk about the effect that this story has had on recruiting.

"I haven't had to address it with the recruits right now," Kelly said of the Ducks' recruiting-service woes. "We're coming off back-to-back Pac-10 championships as we move into a brand-new league with a brand-new television contract. It's a bright future for us. We had a berth in the Rose Bowl (in the 2009 season). We had a berth in the national championship game, and I understand from the kids we've talked to, our recruiting is going very, very well."

One thing that Kelly has proved during his time in Eugene is his ability to keep his team and staff focused on the task at hand. Right now, that task is getting into summer camp and continuing to prepare for LSU.

During media day, the Ducks were selected to win both the Pac-12 North division as well as the conference.

Once the NCAA is done with their investigation, the media will have their answers, but until then then the Ducks continue to focus on football.

Regardless of what may or may not have happened off the field, one thing is for certain, the Ducks are behind Chip Kelly and he is chomping at the bit to answer any and all questions.
