WWE: 7 Possible Upcoming Storylines for Money in the Bank Master Alberto Del Rio

Drake OzJun 7, 2018

Alberto Del Rio has put all WWE championship contenders on notice.

The Raw Money in the Bank winner has only held the briefcase for slightly more than a week, but he's already nearly cashed it in twice.

Of course, he failed on both occasions. But that's neither here nor there.

The point is that Del Rio currently has a lot of power in his hands, and he'll be a huge player in Raw's main event scene as long as he's Mr. Money in the Bank.

The question on all our minds, however, is: When will ADR cash in that briefcase and try to win his first WWE title?

I'm not sure yet, but let's ponder what Del Rio will do until then.

Here are seven possible upcoming storylines (in order from least likeliest to likeliest, in my opinion) for the Mexican Aristocrat, Alberto Del Rio.

7. Alberto Del Rio Pulls a Daniel Bryan

1 of 7

I hope the WWE creative team isn't this lazy, but I could see those guys "pulling another Daniel Bryan."

In other words, they would have Alberto Del Rio announce beforehand when and where he will cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase.

Perhaps he picks a pay-per-view like Survivor Series or Royal Rumble, and gives the WWE Champion advance notice of his decision to cash in.

But that's highly unlikely, especially considering the fact that Del Rio is a heel and likely wouldn't do something so honorable.

Then again, we could see Del Rio attempt to cash in time after time after time over the next several months and consistently fail to do so.

That would lead to growing frustration on Del Rio's part, and ultimately, the decision to give his opponent fair warning as to when he'll cash in.

6. Triple H Makes Alberto Del Rio Defend His Briefcase

2 of 7

There's a new man in charge in the WWE, and his name is Triple H.

The Game is now the COO of the company, and he's already made a few notable changes to the WWE, such as bringing Jim Ross back to the announcer's table.

It seems like there's a pretty good chance that Triple H will make even more changes to the WWE landscape as his tenure as the boss rolls along.

So, what if he plans on "undoing" or "redoing" anything and everything that Vince McMahon did wrong?

Maybe Triple H decides to make Alberto Del Rio defend his briefcase—on more than one occasion—to prove that he's worthy of being Mr. Money in the Bank.

The Game could go as far as stripping ADR of the guaranteed title shot, but I think it's more likely that Triple H will simply force him to fight to hold onto it.

5. Alberto Del Rio vs. John Cena vs. CM Punk at Summerslam

3 of 7

Remember a few weeks back when CM Punk was suspended and Alberto Del Rio was named the No. 1 Contender to the WWE Championship?

Yeah, that kinda just went away.

Well, let's not just throw Del Rio's No. 1 contendership out the window. Instead, let's him have him remind Triple H that he is the "rightful" No. 1 contender to the WWE title.

That way, Del Rio can be inserted into the already confusing WWE championship scene on Raw.

Triple H will announce a triple threat match between WWE Champion (?) John Cena, WWE Champion (?) CM Punk and Del Rio at SummerSlam to solve two big problems: who's the true No. 1 contender and who's the real WWE Champion.

In fact, this could even be a fatal 4-way with Rey Mysterio involved as well.

4. Alberto Del Rio Consistently Attempts to Cash in but Never Actually Does

4 of 7

We've seen just about every Money in the Bank winner attempt to cash in and fail before eventually succeeding at it.

Well, Alberto Del Rio's already failed twice. He was kicked in the head by CM Punk at Money in the Bank, and he was stifled by Rey Mysterio on Monday's Raw.

The Mexican Aristocrat is officially 0-for-2, and this may be a sign of things to come.

Since the inception of the Money in the Bank match, we've yet to see someone hold onto the briefcase so long that he never gets to use it.

Could we see it happen this time around?

While I agree that it would make that entire Raw MITB match pretty worthless, it could add a new dimension to Del Rio's character much like Christian's five-day title reign did.

Don't expect this to happen, but don't count it out either.

3. Alberto Del Rio vs. Rey Mysterio: Take Two

5 of 7

When Alberto Del Rio first came to the WWE about a year ago, he was immediately thrust into a high profile feud with Rey Mysterio on SmackDown.

The rivalry was a very good one, and the creative team has teased reigniting it multiple times since both Del Rio and Mysterio were moved to Raw.

They did it again this Monday, too.

Del Rio nearly cashed in on Mysterio after the Master of the 619 won the WWE Championship, and it could have been the start of yet another Mysterio/Del Rio feud.

Sure, it would be a recycled rivalry that we saw just a year ago, but it's still one that I wouldn't mind seeing.

After all, Del Rio and Mysterio need something to do if Cena and Punk are going to be battling for the WWE Championship.

2. Alberto Del Rio Cashes in on CM Punk or John Cena, and Ignites a Feud

6 of 7

Who is the actual WWE Champion, CM Punk or John Cena?

I guess they both technically are right now, but either way, it seems like the WWE creative team is planning on doing another Cena/Punk match at SummerSlam.

The crazy thing, though, is that this epic encounter is now essentially a face vs. face match. Say what you want, but for all intents and purposes, Punk is a face now, too.

That means Alberto Del Rio could very well cash in on whoever wins the Cena/Punk match at SummerSlam, or even at another pay-per-view down the road.

This could lead to a three-way feud between Del Rio, Cena and Punk—like I mentioned in an earlier slide—or a one-on-one feud between either ADR and Cena or ADR and Punk.

1. Alberto Del Rio Wins the WWE Championship…While Still Holding the Briefcase

7 of 7

One situation I've pondered for several weeks now was Alberto Del Rio doing something that's never done before.

That is, Del Rio actually winning the WWE Championship while still holding the briefcase.

There are a number of different ways this could work out, but an obvious one is that Del Rio asserts himself as the "true" No. 1 Contender (because of his victory on Raw a few weeks back) and wins the WWE Championship at SummerSlam without using the briefcase.

It doesn't have to happen like that. It could go hundreds of different ways.

But the end result is always the same, and having Del Rio as WWE Champion and Mr. Money in the Bank would be something unique, something different.

Hey, it could happen.
