WWE: Triple H vs. CM Punk at WrestleMania 28 Needs to Happen

There has been a lot of talk in the last week about what the future of the WWE really is and just how much life is imitating art with Triple H being named the successor to Vince McMahon both on television and behind the scenes.

While it's true that Triple H will one day take over everything, he is still a relatively young man, and he is capable of getting more physical than most WWE chief operating officers would be able to.

With that in mind, it seems to make all the sense in the world that Triple H would challenge CM Punk on the grandest stage that wrestling has to offer: WrestleMania 28.

The main event of the show—John Cena vs. The Rock—has been set for the last three months, but a Punk vs. Triple H match has all the potential to be a much bigger deal, at least from a storyline perspective, than Rock and Cena.

Punk, as far as the story goes, is the biggest reason that McMahon has been kicked from his post as WWE chairman. He is the reason that everything fell apart for McMahon and WWE.

Triple H is the McMahon family savior. He will challenge Punk for WrestleMania to avenge his father-in-law and stand up for WWE, which has been his home for nearly 20 years.

It appeared to me that they were planting some of the seeds for that match when Triple H thanked McMahon for turning the company into what it is today. It was a scripted line, probably written by McMahon to pat himself on the back, but it did make me take some notice.

There is almost no doubt in anyone's mind that Triple H is going to work at least one more match, which will take place at WrestleMania 28, and Punk is the only guy, at least right now, that makes sense for him to wrestle.

I would presume that Hunter will be the heel in the match, just because he is the corporate guy and wants to defend his own company and make sure that an "outsider" doesn't ever do anything to bring down this WWE giant.

Plus, Punk is so hot as a babyface right now that it would be stupid to try and turn him heel.

The story is right there for Triple H and CM Punk to run with, and there is no reason that this can't be the best match on the WrestleMania card because of how good Punk is as a worker and Triple H's ability to put a match together.

The only thing that worries me if they do this match is that Triple H will feel a need to put himself over, which would be the worst possible thing for everyone involved. We have seen it in the past when Triple H should lose to someone because it would be the right thing for business, but he won because he had the power to do so and felt that the other guy was unworthy.

But aside from that one worry, there is no reason to think that Punk and Triple H at WrestleMania 28 won't happen. The only thing that could prevent it will be WWE's complete lack of patience to allow stories to develop naturally, as evidenced by Punk's early return last night.

Punk wants to be in the main event of WrestleMania. Triple H, despite not being a regular wrestler, is still one of the biggest stars in wrestling today. There is no reason not to make the match happen, both for business and for storyline purposes.
