WWE: Why It's Time for WWE to Ignite Thursday Night War with TNA

Brandon GalvinJun 7, 2018

We all remember the beloved Monday Night wars between Vince McMahon and WWE against Eric Bischoff and WCW for the exciting moments produced during the era. It truly brought out the best in two of the most creative minds the world has ever seen.

WWE appears destined for a new era led by anti-hero and WWE Champion CM Punk and new on-air CEO Triple H. These are two of the most creative minds in the industry today and have already done a fantastic job with the recent Punk free agency storyline.

WWE is blurring the lines with its product as they use social media outlets to drive their recent storylines.

McMahon and WWE executives are finally using the Internet to their advantage to stir the pot and deliver a compelling product even when the television cameras are cooling down.

Now is the perfect time to make an even bigger splash in the industry and create a Thursday Night war with TNA Wrestling.

Instead of waiting for TNA to gain steam and ignite the war, let WWE be the one to engage in battle. Forget reacting and take initiative.

I recently stated WWE needs to end its current brand extension with SmackDown drowning on all levels. SmackDown is deprived of quality, superstars and ratings.

WWE has every wrestling fan captivated right now with its main RAW storyline. Now is the time for WWE to take us back to the days when they produced more than one quality program a week.

The No. 1 way to go about this is to not just merge the rosters and trim the fat of its green wrestlers, but put SmackDown back on primetime Thursday night.

Monday and Thursday nights used to be WWE’s days. Nothing else mattered. Not Everybody Loves Raymond, Frasier, Friends or any of these other sitcoms. These days belonged to wrestling—to WWE.

WWE let TNA take Thursday for no damn reason whatsoever.

For what? For Friday night?

Are you kidding me, Vince?

How could you lay down one of the best nights for television to your competitor?

Would you have given up Monday Night RAW to Bischoff and Nitro? No chance in hell.

Even worse, Vince moves SmackDown to the worst possible night for television.

Nobody is even around to watch SmackDown on Friday nights, which is part of the reason nobody tunes in or cares about SmackDown—including WWE itself.

TNA has taken its fair shots at WWE in the past. It’s finally time for WWE to hit them back where it counts—the ratings.

With Punk, John Cena, Triple H and Vince leading the charge for the potential of a new era, they need to start it up with a bang.

Instead of just raising the product on RAW, raise it throughout the week and bring the action back to Thursday night. It’s time to use SmackDown to prove to everyone once again who the true top dog is in wrestling.

TNA is merely treading water right now with the likes of Hulk Hogan dominating the program.

Yes, they have superstars in Kurt Angle, AJ Styles, Rob Van Dam and Sting, but that’s good for WWE. This will cause them to raise the bar to heights TNA could only dream. They’ll have TNA top superstars begging to return or debut in WWE.

WWE has everyone on the edge of their seat. They are officially bringing wrestling back to the forefront with this incredible CM Punk-social media storyline.

Fans have not been this intrigued by wrestling in years.

The time is now to capitalize and force their gripping television onto the fans two nights a week. If WWE engages in a ratings war with TNA, their quality will only continue to improve with Punk, Triple H and the McMahon family pushing the limits back stage.

Now is the perfect opportunity to take WWE back to a time when they pushed the limits on a weekly, and nearly daily, basis.

Since WWE first introduced the brand split, I can’t remember a time WWE had fans this captivated. They are on the brink of truly setting the world on fire; why not go in with a monstrous bang that will have fans talking for years to come?

WWE can take its SmackDown product from the Friday night shadows back to the Thursday night foreground as they ignite a TV war with TNA to raise the bar for truly gripping and enticing wrestling programming.
