I had never sat through an entire Formula One race until this year, but since then I've been hooked, watching each Grand Prix. I ask myself, why do I keep coming back and tuning in week after week?
For years, I've been a fan of American auto racing and NASCAR in general and continue to enjoy it, but there is something about these beasts of machines that keeps me hooked.
Obviously F1 does not have as many overtakes as a typical stock car race, but they do have their moments, and with the speeds these guys carry, you constantly hold your breath when they get alongside one another, just waiting to see what is going to happen next.
At the start of a Grand Prix, you know you will get excitement right from the starting grid. The amount of action that takes place at the start of a GP is overwhelming, and some of the daring moves these guys make to set them up for the rest of the event are unbelievable.
Maybe it's the strategy involved that keeps me coming back. I mean, once someone gets out front, they can cruise to a victory on most occasions; however, with all the tire strategies I've seen just this year, anything can happen, and all the drama involved in it keeps you glued to your seat.
Could it be the pure speed that these cars possess? The speed and the grip these machines have are insane, and each corner looks like it's going to be a disaster but somehow, someway, they continue on again and again. The amount of concentration and skill it must take to compete is amazing to anybody who will sit and watch.
I can't put my finger on exactly what it is. It could just be a combination of all of those factors, but each week my love for F1 racing grows. I'm not sure what got everybody else hooked, but feel free to let me know.
