WWE News: Will CM Punk Usher in A New Era of the Tag Team?

The WWE has had their hand forced by star CM Punk, and in a twist of fate, Punk used the leverage he got from signing a contract with the WWE to get jobs for his former co-workers.

The plan all along for Punk was to either force WWE to start employing more Ring of Honor wrestlers, or return to ROH to eventually compete with the WWE.

Realizing that Punk had all the leverage in the discussions after what has become one of the most famous shoot promos in history, the WWE gave Punk what he wanted and it looks like it will come to fruition sooner rather than later.

With Punk to return to action soon, Wrestle Zone is reporting:

Ring of Honor tag team The Kings of Wrestling, comprised of Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero, will bypass the developmental system and debut on the main roster after they sign their WWE deals.

For those who don’t know, Ring of Honor is the best pure wrestling company in the United States, and the Kings of Wrestling are the federation’s best team. With the KoW will come some of the other stars of the ROH, including the other tag teams that have graced the company for too long without the mainstream’s eye on them.

The hope for the WWE and the fans of wrestling is that these signings will signify a changing of the guards when it comes to tag team wrestling, and even bring the genre back full time. The WWE had given up on the idea of having tag-teams compete, but that is some of the best wrestling in the world.

With the kings of wrestling bringing their elite talent, it will open the door for the Briscoes or the Hart Dynasty to make a strong push for time on Raw or SmackDown.

Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero are two of the best workers not signed to TNA or WWE, and it was just a matter of time before the multiple time champions hooked on with a company. The fact that it took this long though, shows how big of a joke the WWE talent evaluators have become.

The WWE Tag Belts have become a way for the WWE to introduce wrestlers to the public, instead of a way to start and continue feuds for long periods of time. With the WWE missing out on one of the greatest parts of the wrestling style, the return of a prominent tag division would be the best thing since the Rock and Sock connection.
