Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Given Boost for Palermo's Javier Pastore
West London's biggest club has been relatively quiet throughout much of the summer, and although a part of that is attributed to their search for a new manager, they haven't officially welcomed in any parts to the club.
One such move that is reportedly going to go through is the signing of Oriol Romeu from Barcelona. The 19-year-old Spaniard isn't a ready-made replacement for Michael Essien, but he could be the future for the club at the position if he can show well at Stamford Bridge.
There is also Luka Modric, who the Blues desperately want, but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has been anything but cooperative. They will reportedly throw in Daniel Sturridge if they land Belgian Romelu Lukaku, but Arsenal is getting in the way of that move as we speak.
And then there is Javier Pastore, a 22-year-old Argentine who looks to be on the move away from his Italian club, Palermo.
According to a report from Mirror Football that quotes Palermo's vice-president, the club at Stamford Bridge are the favorites to land him:
""It's very probable that Pastore will go to Chelsea, but I think there are other top-level teams who are after the player,' Micciche told Radio Sportiva. 'He wants a big club and there are advanced talks with very important teams. His agent [Marcelo Simonian] is working very well, and if someone pays the right money then we will be happy to sell him. If not, we will keep him."
"
The Italians are not accepting any players in return. They want only money, and this isn't much of a problem for the Blues.
Pastore erupted for 14 goals and six assists last season in Serie A, but Palermo finished only in eighth. He's been capped nine times by his national squad, but is still coming into his own as a player and could shine on Premier League side like Chelsea.
His club claims that another club offered €45 million for him already, but refused to name the club. As expected for a player of Pastore's caliber and with this much money the big teams are all mentioned. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Inter Milan and Roma have all been linked at one point or another, but all have excuses for reasons to be out too.
Barcelona will be out of money if they land Cesc Fabregas, Real Madrid is said to only be in the hunt for a striker, Manchester City is working toward landing Sergio Aguero and the two other Italian clubs will likely be out bid by Chelsea if push came to shove.
This appears to be the Blues' race to lose at this point, now it is on new bass Andre Villas-Boas to make something happen.
