British Open Golf 2011: The 4 Most Overrated Players at Royal St. George's

The 2011 British Open got its start today, and the play seems to be getting off to a quick start.

We have seen a few upsetting first rounds, a few surprising performances and even a hole in one during the first day of The Open.

The field is jam packed with marquee names and headliner players, as well as some relative unknowns that may have a chance at making a splash.

With that in mind, here are the four most overrated players in the 2011 British Open.

4. Anthony Kim

Kim has talent and potential, but he apparently has no motivation to follow it up.

He’s only 25, but only three wins and 20 top-10s in his career?

That’s a compelling case for being overrated in my opinion.

3. Phil Mickelson

I know that Lefty is a legend and all, but I’m willing to go out and say he is overrated at this point of his career.

He is constantly underachieving or just falling apart.

His swing has changed, and injuries are a concern; I’m starting to wonder how much high-quality golf Mickelson has left in him.

2. Luke Donald

For being the No. 1-ranked player in the world, Luke Donald is completely underwhelming.

He has shown spurts of why he is ranked where he is, but overall he is extremely inconsistent and has not come up clutch in Majors this year.

He’s more middle of the pack than anything, but there is no doubt that he does have the potential to be the most impressive player in the game.

1. Rickie Fowler

Don’t get me wrong—I believe that Rickie Fowler is a talented golfer, but he is nowhere near the level that his press coverage would suggest.

It’s sad to say it, but I believe Fowler is known more for his choice of style and hats than he is for quality golf wins.

The only reason I would cut him slack is because he is incredibly young, so perhaps with some maturity he could live up to the hype.
