Worst Boxer Ever: Watch the Rise and Fall of Brian Sutherland

Henry MartinSenior Analyst IJuly 12, 2011

I feel as though I may have stumbled upon one of the worst professional boxers to have ever entered the ring.

You can watch the fight here.

It was in 1993 during a Tuesday Night Fights event where former street fighter Brian Sutherland was making his boxing debut at light heavyweight against Kenny Rainford.

Before the fight, Sutherland bragged about how he would fight on the streets and was basically undefeated in all his fights. He thought he'd turn pro to make some money doing what he does best, fighting.

As soon as the bell rang, Sutherland rushed to the center of the ring and began to throw punches against his opponent. The fight immediately turned into a joke as neither commentator could stop laughing at the fact that Sutherland didn't know how to throw a punch.

He was actually trying to have a catfight with his opponent as he threw a combination of windmill punches, hoping one would land.

The fight came to an end 56 seconds in as Rainford landed a right to Sutherland's chin which literally spun him around and stunned him for a few seconds before he fell to the ground.

Sutherland's dreams of joining the ranks of Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson as one of the best boxers of all times ended the same night it began as he quickly retired from boxing after the fight.

While we may not remember him for his skill, we'll always remember him for the hilarious fight that he has given us.

Thank you Brian Sutherland.
