CM Punk Video: Watch Straight-Edge Superstar Rip Up New WWE Contract
WWE fans and analysts have been singing the praises of CM Punk so much over the past two weeks that it's becoming more and more difficult to come up with superlatives to describe how good he has been, but I will do my best.
First, I must set the stage for you.
On Raw last night, Punk and Vince McMahon had their much hyped face-to-face confrontation set against the backdrop of a live contract negotiation. Punk cut a GREAT promo on McMahon, telling him that he was a bully and needed to apologize for the way he has treated the workers that he has fired because they loved professional wrestling but didn't fit into the "WWE mold."
McMahon was also in top form last night, playing the evil, vindictive boss. He said he didn't care what the people wanted, to which Punk said that was the problem with WWE today.
Just as McMahon was going to sign the contract that Punk's lawyers had drawn up, John Cena came out. He started off doing that crappy comedy that no one really likes, but then things got really good. Cena said that Punk was a hypocrite because he was acting as the voice for the voiceless while getting ready to walk out on them after Money in the Bank.
Then came the great line where Punk compared Cena and the city of Boston to the New York Yankees. Cena punched Punk, who rolled out of the ring and walked up the ramp before turning around and saying that he was leaving because he was tired of it all. He then ripped up the contract that he had prepared and the show ended.
This angle has been so great, and Punk has been absolutely phenomenal. There is still no word on whether or not he has re-signed with WWE, but based on the strength of this angle and the way that the crowd has latched onto Punk as the antihero, it is likely.
This is the biggest money angle that WWE has had in years, and Punk's performance has been the key to it all.
