Chelsea Transfer News: Florent Malouda Not Ready to Leave Stamford Bridge
New Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has to take the temperature of his club before he can figure out exactly what moves need to be made.
The Portuguese 33-year-old manager has highlighted the defense as an area in need of upgrade, but the Blues have been linked to a number of players at the positions.
Even with a bevy of strikers and forwards at the top, the Blues have been linked to a number of talented goal scorers as well.
As for the midfield, they'd also like to add some youth there because they fear they do have some aging players in the middle of the field.
One such player, 31-year-old Florent Malouda, has been rumored to be unhappy and wanted a contract extension. Chelsea doesn't negotiate extensions with players over the age of 30 beyond a one-year deal if they already have a deal in place, but Malouda has now cleared the air.
According to a line from The Daily Express (via Mirror Football):
"Florent Malouda has insisted he does not want to leave Chelsea and that he has a good relationship with new manager Andre Villas-Boas.
"
The new manager is only two years Malouda's senior and certainly comes in with a mindset of winning immediately at Stamford Bridge.
Malouda was the Blues' leading goal scorer last season and made 50 appearances overall.
He's obviously still a talented playmaker and with the turnover expected at striker, the possible departure of Didier Drogba and the start of the Fernando Torres era, it would be wise for Villas-Boas to get comfortable with a familiar and reliable foot like Malouda.
Torres has shown no indication of his true talent so far in a Blue jersey, and it has to be a little concerning. That said, owner Roman Abramovich intends to move forward with the Spaniard spearheading his attack.
Having Florent Malouda in tow with the situation would be wise, and this is certainly a good thing for the Blues moving forward if his words are true.
