UFC 132 Results: 5 Opponents We Want to See Carlos Condit Fight Next

First LastJul 4, 2011

Carlos Condit impressed MMA fans with his finishing ability once again when he put away top Korean prospect Dong Hyun Kim in the very first round at UFC 132.

All it took was a flying knee and some follow up punches to put the standout Judoka down and out, giving him the first loss of his entire career. Before the fight, Kim had gone 5-0-1 in the UFC.

Now, fans are viewing Condit as the next title challenger for the winner of Georges St. Pierre vs. Nick Diaz.

Whatever the result of that fight is, it will make for a good fight. If he wants to fight again, these are other opponents he could possibly take on.

No. 5: B.J. Penn

1 of 5

Former Lightweight and Welterweight Champion BJ Penn hasn't fought since getting a draw with Jon Fitch at UFC 127. They scheduled a rematch, but Fitch pulled out and Condit was about to step in before Penn also got injured and pulled out.

Many consider Penn a top five welterweight so this fight makes sense if terms of rankings and moving up in the division for Condit.

"The Natural Born Killer" is best known for his finishing ability. Out of 27 victories, 26 have been won by either submission or knockout.

Could he finish "The Prodigy."

No. 4: Martin Kampmann

2 of 5

Martin Kampmann already has a victory over Condit, but it was in his UFC debut and was a very close fight that could have gone either way.

The split-decision loss set Condit back after the WEC removed the 170 pound division in their organization for which Condit was their welterweight champion. He joined the UFC quickly after and signed to fight Kampmann.

Kampmann is currently on a two fight losing streak, dropping decision losses to Jake Shields and Diego Sanchez. Some thought he won both of those fights.

It makes sense to make this fight because of the result of their first bout, but it might not happen because of the loss of momentum Kampmann has had in recent fights.

No. 3: Jon Fitch

3 of 5

Everybody knows Jon Fitch's style, and it's one of the most frustrating and grueling styles to fight. He has used it to defeat 13 of 15 opponents in the UFC.

Condit is a guy who doesn't get frustrated and he usually gets stronger as the fight goes on. His comeback wins wins over Jake Ellenberger and Rory MacDonald prove this. If this fight was made, it could be a five-round main event, which may ultimately determine the victor.

Fitch is an incredibly hard opponent to finish, and Condit is one of the best finishers in the division. It would be impressive if either of them could stop the other, but it's most likely to go to a decision and be a very close bout.

No. 2: Winner of Jake Ellenberger vs. Jake Shields

4 of 5

Ultimate Fight Night 25 will host a main event between hard-punching Jake Ellenberger and grappling ace Jake Shields.

Shields is coming off his lost to Georges St. Pierre but was on a 15-fight win streak before that with victories over Dan Henderson, Paul Daley, Jason Miller and Martin Kampmann.

Ellenberger rebounded from his close 2009 loss to Condit to win four in a row, defeating Mike Pyle, John Howard, Carlos Rocha and Sean Pierson. He has 14 knockout victories in his career and is considered to be the hardest puncher in the division. He has also has a close split-decision loss to Condit.

The winner of the fight could meet up with Condit for the number one contenders fight.

No. 1: Winner of Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz

5 of 5

This is the fight everybody wants to see, and Dana White delivered once again.

UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre takes on former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz in the main event at UFC 137, and it's one of the most anticipated matches of both fighters' careers.

St-Pierre is currently on a nine-fight win streak, including six title defenses while Diaz is on a 10-fight win streak with memorable wars against fighters like Paul Daley.

If the fans keep asking to give Condit the title shot, it will probably happen. He is training partners with St-Pierre so when asked about a title shot after his win at UFC 132, he kind of left it to the fans to decide. They let him know pretty quick what they thought about it.

Some might want to see Diaz vs. Condit the most so that fight also creates a lot of excitement.
