Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Looking for Push from Craig Gordon in Net?

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Arsenal has plenty of things to worry about with their own squad right now, but it hasn't limited the Gunners' interest in adding other talent just yet.

Captain Cesc Fabregas has been flirting with his boyhood club Barcelona and the interest swings both ways at this time. The 24-year-old defender is highly thought of the Emirates, but the Bernabeu also has high hopes for him.

One player who isn't going anywhere is 21-year old keeper Wojciech Szczęsny. The Polish netminder took over in net for the Gunners last season and is the future in the net for Arsene Wenger's side. But the North London club isn't going to let it be that easy, and a report from Goal.com indicates Wenger has his eyes on Scottish keeper Craig Gordon.

The report reads:

"

"Now The News of the World reports that the Gunners are looking at Gordon to challenge youngster Wojciech Szczesny ... Sunderland's signing of Republic of Ireland international Kieren Westwood has also cast further doubt on the future of the former Heart of Midlothian man at the Stadium of Light."

"

Gordon is 28-years old, has manned the net for Sunderland since 2007 and is also the starting keeper for the Scottish international team.

He was, however, displaced as the starter for the Black Cats and only has one year left on his contract.

Gordon's role in Ashburton Grove would be simple: push Szczesny.

The 21-year-old took over the starting role last season and made 21 appearances in total, but allowing him to rest would be a mistake for Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners are also staring down the potential losses of Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri in addition to Fabregas. Clichy appears headed out to Manchester City while Nasri has interest from a number of clubs, most notably Manchester United.

It could be a long, long summer for the Gunners if they lose any combination of these stars, and unfortunately the addition of Gordon won't help too much.

The believed price for his services is around £4 million and the Gunners should easily be able to handle that if they truly want to a make a move for him.
