PFC Border Wars 1 Interview: "The Menace" Clements Ready to Take out Briere

Dwight WakabayashiJul 3, 2011

Ontario is in full summer swing for mixed martial arts and coming off of two fairly small but successful events in June. Next up is Border Wars: Round 1 presented by Pro Fighting Championships coming up in Windsor on July 16. This will be the second event of the year held in Windsor as the Maximum Fighting Championships, also held an event there in April.

Border Wars will be Pro Fighting Championships' first run at an MMA show and the card will co-headline Chris "The Menace" Clements in his fight against Travis Briere, and Chris "The Polish Hammer" Horodecki.

I caught up with Clements with his dog at his home gym Adrenaline Training Center in London, Ontario where he works full time as a trainer and is preparing for his fight.

On His Training: "I love heading into every fight." I'm getting in shape again, eating healthy so everything is starting to run smooth now."

On Fighting at Home In Ontario: "It's my first time and it's exciting. I'm a bit up there in age so I've been doing this a long time, but I've never gotten to fight at home. Ontario guys always got the short end of the stick throughout Canada. We never had fights in our own backyard, we never had fan support and we never got paid properly we were always coming in so it was tough to sell tickets.

This fight, I can sell tickets, my family can afford to come, they don't have to fly to Montreal or New Jersey or wherever to see me fight."

What Does Travis Briere Bring?: "Don't know much about him. A lot of the guys he has fought have not really been high-calibre opponents so, I'm prepared for anything he has to offer. His skill level and technique in terms of kickboxing, jiu-jitsu and wrestling are not the same as mine, but he has a lot of heart and that can take you a long way."

On Fighting Tougher Fights:  "I was looking for that big-name fight now as I was supposed to fight Phil Baroni. I signed to fight him and he got a rib injury and had to pull out so they gave me Briere."

On How The Fight Will Go Down: "I go for the knockout every time." He raised up both his hands and said, "This hand's the hospital and this hand's the hearse."

I look forward to seeing Clements go at it.
