UFC 132 Results: Cruz Retains, Tito Ortiz Keeps Job, Leben and Condit Get the KO

Andrew BarrJun 7, 2018

UFC 132 has just passed us by and it was an incredible night of fights.

The night started off with what was expected to be a closely contended matchup in Carlos Condit vs. Dong Hyun Kim.

However, Carlos surprised everyone, knocking Kim out in the first round with a flying knee and showing the UFC that he is ready for a step up in competition.

Condit is now the first man to ever defeat Dong, and he has done so in devastating fashion. Expect the UFC to give him a big step up in competition for his next fight.

The next fight, Tito Ortiz vs. Ryan Bader, was by an immeasurable margin the most surprising of the night.

Ortiz went in to UFC 132 having not won a fight in five years. It was made public knowledge that Tito was fighting for his job, and no one was really expecting him to win.

Most thought that the UFC was trying to give Ryan an easy rebound fight, while simultaneously getting rid of the Huntington Beach Bad Boy.

To the shock of all fans in attendance, Tito dropped his opponent with a big right hand in the first round and then slapped a guillotine choke on him.

Bader tapped to the submission and the audience went crazy.

Ortiz has never been known for having power in his hands or his submission skills, and he used both those things to win the fight.

Matt Wiman vs. Dennis Siver was undoubtedly the low point of the evening, not because the fight wasn't entertaining, but because it ended controversially.

The bout was relatively closely contended, but Wiman was more aggressive throughout the fight and definitely did the most damage.

After the fight Siver was announced as the winner by unanimous decision, and audience showed that they disagreed with the judges' decision by booing emphatically.

Chris Leben vs. Wanderlei Silva was arguably the most looked-forward-to fight on the card and many believed it would be a contender for Fight of the Year.

The fight was exciting, but didn't quite live up to the hype.

Wanderlei came out aggressive, but in doing so left himself exposed and Leben was quick to take advantage.

Chris caught Wanderlei with some huge left hands standing, followed by some vicious rights on the ground and the fight was over in less than 30 seconds.

It was an exciting finish, but many were hoping that the fight would be more of a war, rather than a one-sided affair.

In the main event of the evening, we saw Dominick Cruz successfully defend his bantamweight championship against the only man ever to defeat him, Urijah Faber.

The fight was a stirring back and forth battle, but Cruz was able to use his superior footwork and quickness to out-strike Faber for much of the contest.

Most believed that Urijah would enjoy a significant advantage when it came to the grappling and submission aspects of the fight, but Cruz showed everyone that he has dramatically improved his all-around game since his first fight with Faber.

Faber did get the occasional takedown, but he was consistently unable to hold Cruz down.

Dominick scored more takedowns than Faber, but had the same issue of not being able to keep his opponent on the ground.

Cruz was gracious in victory, giving credit to his defeated opponent and, in particular, noting Faber's much-improved striking.

It was a great night of fights and possibly the best UFC event of 2011 thus far.

Main Card Results:

Carlos Condit defeats Dong Hyun Kim by first round TKO (flying knee and punches)

Tito Ortiz defeats Ryan Bader by first round submission (guillotine choke)

Dennis Siver defeats Matt Wiman by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Chris Leben defeats Wanderlei Silva by first round KO (punches)

Dominick Cruz defeats Urijah Faber by unanimous decision (50-45, 49-46, 48-47)
