UFC 132 Fight Card: What Dong Hyun Kim Must Do to Beat Carlos Condit

Dale De SouzaJun 7, 2018

"The Stun Gun" Dong Hyun Kim has been on a tear ever since his debut—a tear with the absence of a true asterisk, unless you count the way his UFC 94 bout with Karo Parisyan originally ended.

Whether you thought Kim beat Parisyan before the aftermath of that fight or not, there's no question that he's made his mark and cemented himself as a possible breakout star in the Welterweight division, but his first legitimate loss could be in the cards when he faces former WEC Welterweight champion Carlos Condit.

Condit is well-known for his submission game and his striking, although his KO power was questioned in the weeks leading up to his UFC 120 bout with Dan Hardy.

That question didn't take long to answer—if you don't believe it, ask Hardy's chin.

Condit is as tough as a Welterweight comes, but he's never faced someone like Kim before.

What Kim needs to do to Condit is risky business, considering Condit likes fighting from his back, but Kim needs to do his dirtiest to make sure that this fight goes to the ground and into the methodical ground-and-pound affair.

Kim needs to bank on Condit trying to keep his guard tight and trying to submit Kim from his back, and he needs to adapt to that by trying to smother him, trying to tire him out, and also trying to deliver some short razor-sharp elbows from inside the guard before working towards the full mount and going for the TKO.

If he doesn't at least try to tire Condit out, he will be easily disposed of by The Natural Born Killer, and he can forget about Georges St-Pierre or Nick Diaz for the time being.

Kim's style may not be very exciting to watch, but it does leave opponents looking battered and beaten badly, and Kim must subject Condit to the same fate tonight if he wants to salvage his hopes of being UFC Welterweight Champion.
