This year there were eight coaching changes in the NBA. The Knicks, Bulls, Pistons, Bucks, Bobcats, Heat, Suns, and Mavericks all have a new face leading their teams.
Should you be worried if you own a player on these teams? Should you be excited?
Last season there were also eight coaching changes in the NBA. The Grizzlies, Rockets, Kings, Sonics/Thunder, Timberwolves, Magic, and Pacers all hired new coaches.
A lot can change with a new coach. They play with new rotations and try players in new roles. The offensive and defensive philosophies of the team will change, which affect tempo, style of play, and ultimately production.
What have we seen from the past to help predict what we will see this season and in future seasons?
What do we already know about these coaches in new places that we can trust as indicators?

Great article. I think Crawford will be huge this season with D'Antoni

I've got David Lee in my fantasy team, but even better, I was able to pick him up late in the draft.
It looks like D'Antoni will start Lee at Center, or possibly at PF with Randolph playing C, but either way, he is set to have a great year.
I also have Steve Nash so it will be very interesting to see what the Suns do under Terry Porter, but Nash is so talented that it is hard to see him averaging anything less than 10 apg.

Yeah, a lot of people let Lee slip in the draft because he hasn't got great PT in the past, put with his per minute production a coach would be stupid not to play him more. Do you remeber the game he had in the rookie/sophmore game? Those don't just happen, players make them happen.
I think Nash is still a good pick, he shoots high percentages, makes 3s and will always get his dimes. Many took Deron Williams and other PGS over him, but with Williams out with an ankle, right now nash was the better pick

Good insight John and you're right, the Magic are so much better off with Van Gundy. But, if you recall, he wasn't the first pick for the job. UF coach Billy Donovan was hired and then let out of his contract a couple days later. Good thing. I can't imagine he would've done a better job than SVG.

Yeah, I failed to mention that.. those are the media spectals that are bringing sports down haha... SVG is a real NBA coach, Billy wouldn't know what to do as his team would have hung around 500 all year.

Almost all of these coaches will be positive changes for fantasy owners. With the exceptions of Curry, Brown and possibly Porter, players on these teams will see their stats increase because of their new coaches. New York and Dallas will definetly benefit, as will the Miami Heat. Spoelstra will rely heavily on Wade and Marion in his first season as head coach; pick them up if you can.

Yeah I watched the Bobcats game last night, it looks like Wallace has more potential to take a hit than Richardson in the new system, but only time will tell.
In the Suns game they came out really flat, and Barbosa stunk it up. CP3 showed that he is the NBAs elite points guard v Nash (7 turnovers) but I still like the Phx guys as fantasy players.
Dallas got a great 1-2 punch from Dirk and Howard, Terry played 31 mins but was less than stellar shooting. Kidd is primed for a monster year, he is only taking the most quality shots (missed a tip-in) boarded passed and got steals.
I agree Marion and Wade will be gems this year. Spoelstra will put his fait in them to lead the team.
As for NY, in the words of Jim Cramer, buybuybuybuybuy

Amare Stoudemire may benefit though; he played really well, and is on pace to be a 20 and 10 guy this season. He's a great pick, only Kobe, LeBron and CP3 are better. Kidd will have a good year, but I don't know if he can keep up that pace over the entire season. And as for Jim Cramer, I'm just gonna walk away. I've had enough of that guy for one lifetime. And I'm only 14!

Yeah I feel like Amare could get 20 and 9/10 on ANY team, the guy has freakish game. I do think Kidd will keep it up, sure hes old, but hes not too old to play Going back to dallas will be new life for him. Thanks for the pick, and in Cramerica we trust hahah
