WWE: Why Vince McMahon Should Fight to Keep CM Punk

The Doctor Chris MuellerJul 1, 2011

After the events of this past Monday, it is unclear if CM Punk will be staying with the WWE after he takes a break from wrestling.

Punk may have used Monday as a platform to say what he really felt, because he knew he was not going to return. His personal insults towards John Laurinaitis, Triple H, Stephanie and Vince could have sealed his fate, but after all the positive response the promo got, could they change their tune?

It is still unclear as to what Vince McMahon really felt about what went down, but with Punk only being scheduled for live events and the MITB pay per view, its safe to say Vince doesn't trust Punk with a mic right now.

This is a crucial time for Vince because he just had someone tear down the fourth wall on live TV, and people have been eating it up.

Radio Show host Jim Rome has offered Punk 45 minutes to speak his mind on his show, and everyone who has anything to do with wrestling has weighed in on the matter.

Some are comparing this to the time when Stone Cold became Austin 3:16. Punk's promo even received high praise form Stone Cold himself, but I doubt the Rock will be giving him props anytime soon.

Vince McMahon has always been known as a guy who does things the way he wants and doesn't take no for an answer, but he also knows when to capitalize on something spectacular.

When Hogan left WWF to be in Rocky III, Vince saw how popular Hogan was afterwards and hired him back.

Now, if Vince is willing to put aside any possible bad feelings he has over the event, and work with Punk to take this thing to the next level then WWE could see a rejuvenation in both viewers and direction of storylines.

Allowing Superstars to express real feelings on live TV does something that no scripted promo can ever do, and that's bring the viewer and the wrestler together on a real and personal level of understanding.

Many people now have a better insight into the mind of CM Punk because he was speaking his true feelings, even if he did stay in character the whole time.

I fell that Punk getting up after his mic cut out and screaming he was the best was part of the character, because I don't think he is cocky enough to make that claim in that way.

Vince is at a point where he needs to consider what is more important, the bad feelings some may have towards Punk after being insulted, or the possibility of making his company a lot of money.

I think we know from history which route Vince McMahon usually goes when those options are available.

I hope Punk is even willing to come back to WWE at this point, because while I think he could do amazing things for a smaller promotion, I selfishly want to keep seeing him on a weekly basis.

I do not have the ability to see ROH on TV because it is not available in my market, at least not yet, and I have pretty much given up on TNA, so him staying in WWE is the only way me, and many of his fans would be able to see him without going to YouTube.

Speaking of YouTube, I did go over there last night and check out some of Punk's older matches from ROH and before, and I found a little gem of a video featuring a young CM Punk squaring off against an unmasked Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero.

The match showed that Punk had star quality in the ring a long time ago.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out after the MITB is over, but I for one will be watching.

I think this will push in enough PPV buys for Vince to take notice and realize that if he wasn't thinking of keeping Punk, maybe he should.

I also had a thought last night, well maybe I should classify it as a conspiracy theory. What if this whole thing was more planned out than we all know?

This may be far out of the realm of possibility but bear with me. What if there was a secret meeting between Vince, Laurinaitis, Triple H, Stephanie and Punk where they all devised a plan to pull off the biggest thing in years, make the public think one of WWE's stars went against them on live TV.

Utilizing the fact that CM Punk's contract is actually expiring and combine it with the knowledge that CM Punk has been telling people for awhile that he has wanted a break from WWE, and you have the groundwork already done for this storyline.

Imagine Vince telling Punk to just insult the hell out of all of them, making it look like there is no way it is a work. Punk didn't use more than one offensive word the whole time, but that also could have been him being smart enough not know not to angry the censors.

Now what if the whole point of this whole ruse was to in fact have CM Punk take the WWE Title with him to other promotions around the world. If Punk goes and defends the belt in AAA, NJPW or CMLL he could gain new fans who would follow him back to WWE once he returns.

The whole storyline would be capped off with Punk coming back to WWE saying he has beaten all the best in the world, and he is retiring, only to be challenged by someone, and lose the title.

This kind of storyline is so far out there that even typing it out makes me realize the lack of possibility in this happening, but one can hope can't they?

Vince McMahon needs to realize that if he can make this into a positive situation backstage, then it will be huge.
