Matt Cassel is probably the smartest man in the world.

I mean, who else would orchestrate the "Tom Brady wears a walking cast" storyline?

Bill Belichick? Robert Kraft? ESPN?

Yea right.

Nope, in hopes of making an appearance in this year's Super Bowl, Cassel was able to find a body double for Brady. After fitting the double in a cast and filming him walking around downtown, Cassel submitted the footage to numerous TV stations that bought the footage, and it began to make the rounds on the airwaves.

Come Thursday afternoon, Bill Belichick was forced to do damage control.

Did he seem vague as usual? Did he seem out of the loop? Well that's because he is, and that's precisely what Matt Cassel wants.

Ok, so it took Cassel 18 games to figure out how to crack Brady, but better late than never right?

He knows that he's never going to get the opportunity to out-play Brady for the starting QBs job in New England. What he does know is that injuries are the door-opener he would need to get himself a start.

The big kicker is that Brady has played this exact same prank before.

Remember back in 2001 when Brady took over from Drew Bledsoe (who was hurt) and then led the New England Patriots to the Super Bowl? Bledsoe wasn't actually hurt at all.

Brady hired hypnotist Irva Shontz to convince Drew otherwise.

"Drew was actually 100 percent healthy the entire time," Shontz said when confronted on the issue. "In hypnotizing Drew, we had him convinced he couldn't play, despite his perfect health."

While this seems completely outrageous and inhumane, Drew McQueen Bledsoe wasn't hypnotized the entire season. (I have no idea if that middle name is true, but if it is I think he should be taking royalties from Disney's Cars. Thanks Wikipedia!)

"We stopped the hypnosis around week five or week six. By that point, it was just psychosomatic; Bledsoe wasn't actually hurt, but he had heard about his injury so much, that he was believing that he was hurt."

What Cassel's hoping for though, is that all the attention gets to Brady and crushes his psyche before the big game.

"We all saw what happened last year against the Colts when Brady was playing with  Bridget Moynahan's pregnancy on his mind. He cracked. We're looking to make this so hard on him that he can't even start. Then I'll play the hero and save the day."

Cassel picked up on Brady's tactics and strategy to capitalize off the field.

Hopefully Cassel will be as successful under centre in Arizona.

I was directed here by a friend, who knew I had heard about Brady's "cast"...also not knowing what The Bleacher Report is, I was quite suprised to learn that this article was written by a student. Ironic, witty, and still informative--that's a sign of a great journalist. If all sports articles were this well written, I can guarantee I'd be reading the Sports section of the paper more often! Excellent!
