UFC 137 Preview: 5 Reasons Georges St-Pierre Will Beat Nick Diaz and Move to MW
A fight that many fans have asked for will happen at UFC 137.
UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre will meet Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz in one of the biggest matches of the year.
St-Pierre, 22-2, is currently on a nine-fight winning streak while Diaz is riding a 10-fight win streak.
Despite Diaz being a tough fighter, many predict he will become another victim of St-Pierre. Some may also believe St-Pierre could move to middleweight . Here are some reasons why they may be right.
St-Pierre’s Game Planning Is Second to None
1 of 5
Nick Diaz is a guy that likes to beat fighters at their own game.
The only problem with facing a guy like St-Pierre is his game changes every fight.
St-Pierre is one of the best in the world because he studies his opponent’s weaknesses and exploits them.
Diaz’ weakness may be wrestling or carelessness when he taunts other fighters in the cage. I expect St-Pierre to pick him apart systematically.
Nick Diaz Has Not Faced Competition Like St-Pierre
2 of 5
Based off of skill, Nick Diaz may be one of St-Pierre’s toughest opponents.
He’s good standing, on the ground, and he can take a punch.
The only problem with Diaz is he has not faced top competition like St-Pierre has. Although Diaz has fought in the UFC before, he went 7-4.
St-Pierre has beaten some of the world’s best; including Diaz’ teammate Jake Shields.
After Beating Diaz the Division Will Be Cleaned out
3 of 5
If St-Pierre gets past Diaz, he will have beaten every top contender the UFC has thrown at him.
A fight between Jon Fitch and BJ Penn could possibly determine a number one contender if it does not go to a draw again.
But St-Pierre has already beat Penn twice and beat down Fitch once.
Any major name that the UFC has at welterweight has either already loss to St-Pierre or does not deserve a title shot just yet.
Nate Marquardt Is Now Fighting at Welterweight
4 of 5
Former middleweight contender Nate Marquardt will be making his welterweight debut at UFC Live 4 next Sunday.
Marquardt and St-Pierre have been teammates for years and like other teammates would most likely refuse to fight each other…at first.
I do not believe St-Pierre and Marquardt would fight each other, nor do I believe St-Pierre will be in the same division by the time Marquardt is in the title hunt.
A New Division Means New Challenges
5 of 5
Moving up to a new division will mean a completely different set of fighters for St-Pierre to face.
It would also mean getting his body in the proper condition to compete at a higher weight class permanently.
Imagine St-Pierre fighting guys like Michael Bisping, Vitor Belfort, and most of all Anderson Silva.
A much talked about superfight between Silva and St-Pierre has been talked about a lot over the past year or so, and a move up would make the fight more of a reality.
