Chael Sonnen Goes off on Cro Cop, Machida, Anderson Silva, Even Steven Seagal

John HeinisJun 8, 2011

It’s that time of week again folks: the time when UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen starts tearing into everyone and their mother via his Twitter account.

Sonnen was not a big Twitter user until getting his California fighter’s license suspended on May 18.

However, Uncle Chael has been going strong on the social medium since the coaches of season 13 of “The Ultimate Fighter” were announced, as well as when Anderson Silva smack-talked Sonnen in an interview with a Brazilian newspaper.

In the past week, this trend continued.

Sonnen has taken shots at heavyweight legend Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic in the past, but none before of this magnitude.

On June 2, Sonnen tweeted:

“Cro Cop is a relic, a reminder from the old days. A museum of ancient victories isn't worth a nickel today, not even in his native currency.”

The legally troubled middleweight contender added:

“Don't get me wrong; Cro Cop was a good fighter back in the day. I would have told him myself, but I was 2.”

So it seems fair to say that Sonnen considers Cro Cop a “has been” at this stage of his career.

The next day, June 3, Sonnen went for the jugular on another guy he had casually disrespected in the past: former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida.

“Machida is a gentleman. MMA is very cutthroat, and it's sweet that Lyoto promised to never fight his girlfriend Anderson. That's devotion.”

For those not familiar, Machida is a member of Black House MMA, as is Anderson Silva.

Chael Sonnen is a fair man, though.  He hates all members of Team Black House equally.

“I'd beat up Machida on the way to the ring to beat up Anderson, and I'll kick Nogueira's ass in the parking lot on the way to my after party.”

Chael is referring to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in this tweet, a man who was instrumental in getting Silva into the UFC.

For whatever reason, this time around, Sonnen’s primary target remained Machida.

“I would never bash karate.  Karate produced many MMA champions, most notably..um..Then of course, there's..Wow, I thought this would be easier.”

Add karate to the laundry list of things Chael Sonnen is not a fan of.  He was just getting started on his tirade against “The Dragon” though.

“Machida is not a bad guy; he's a victim of the Brazilian education system. There are better ways to get electrolytes than drinking piss.”

Machida has said before in interviews that he engages in urine therapy, in other words drinking his own urine, in order to replenish his body of all the vitamins and nutrients it needs.

Sonnen throws a low blow on this one…but can he really be blamed in this situation?  Machida just made it too easy.

Is Chael Sonnen really going to go off on former action film star, and alleged mixed martial artist extraordinaire, Steven Seagal?

Take a guess.

“Brazil likes to boast that it's the power seat of MMA, yet its so-called champions bow to the man behind "Under Siege 2."........ Classy.”

Certainly, a number of readers have to agree that Steven Seagal’s sudden praise within the MMA community is quite strange.

Sonnen added:

“I still admire Steven Seagal. Anyone that can be that self-possessed without doing a damn thing to earn it, knows something that I don't.”

So does this mean that Sonnen doesn’t like cop action dramas, either?

Sonnen went for the knockout blow on Seagal when he concluded with:

“Yushin and I are in Brazil to follow in Andy's ways. Got ballet shoes, a team of has-beens, even brought a fat talentless celeb for trainer.”

Seagal vs. Sonnen upon Chael’s return to the fight world?

Sonnen then decided to toss another insult at Black House, this time aimed at both Nogueira brothers.

“I could write a dissertation on this experience: "The Tragic Interplay of Delusion, Insecurity, and Incompetence: the Nog Brothers' Story".”

Does Sonnen have a New York Times Best Seller in the works here?

Apparently, because he already has a sequel in works, which he plans to write when Yushin Okami beats Anderson Silva for the middleweight belt at UFC 134.

“Stay tuned for the sequel, "Help, an Asian Judoka is Beating My Ass: The Anderson Silva Story.”

Let’s see now if anyone from Black House decides to respond to the virtual thrashings Sonnen has directed at them in the past week.
