Fantasy Football Week 8 Rankings: Tight Ends

Michael WhooleySenior Writer IOctober 23, 2008

The Tight End position isn't exactly racking up the points this season. In fact, as we head into week 8, only two tight ends have reached the 50 point mark. Still, one or two points can make the difference in your week 8 match-up, so take a look at the week 8 tight end rankings.

1. Chris Cooley (Washington Redskins) @ Detroit

There isn't many weeks when someone other than Jason Witten tops the tight end list on a weekly basis, but with Cooley having a cake matchup he is atop our Week 8 rankings. Look for Cooley to hover around 70 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Point Projection: 13 points

2. Antonio Gates (San Diego Chargers) vs. New Orleans (London)

After getting off to a fast start, Gates has been held in check over the past few weeks, but look for him to get healthy against the Saints in London. You can't expect the big games of the past out of Gates, but 60 receiving yards and a touchdown is on the horizon.
Point Projection: 12 points

3. Jason Witten (Dallas Cowboys) vs. Tampa Bay

Part of this ranking has to do with Brad Johnson throwing the football in Dallas, the other has to do with his matchup against a tough Buccaneers pass defense. Still, we think Witten has enough talent to haul in 55-60 receiving yards regardless of the QB situation.
Point Projection: 11 points

4. Owen Daniels (Houston Texans) vs. Cincinnati

Last week Daniels had two touchdown receptions and 20 fantasy points en route to a career day. We have a feeling that this is a coming out party for the talented tight end and once again Daniels is a top tier play this week. Congrats to those owners who snagged him towards the end of your fantasy draft.
Point Projection: 11 points

5. Tony Gonzalez (Kansas City Chiefs)  @ New York Jets

The Chiefs passing game is grade F right now but the play of Gonzalez in Week 7 was solid. He finished with 9 fantasy points and should be able to act as a security blanket for unproven quarterback Tyler Thigpen.
Point Projection: 7 points

6. John Carlson (Seattle Seahawks) @ San Francisco

Carlson hasn't been piling up the yardage as of late, but he did score a touchdown last week and has one of the best matchups on the board in Week 8. With touchdowns in back-to-back weeks you should ride Carlson why he's hot. Plus, he torched the 49ers in a Week 2 meeting.
Point Projection: 7 points

7. Dallas Clark (Indianapolis Colts) @ Tennessee

Clark has 19 receptions for 226 receiving yards over the last four games but has no touchdowns to show for it. With the Titans having allowed just one TD pass on the year, don't expect Clark to find paydirt, but do expect Manning to look his way enough to have another solid yardage game.
Point Projection: 6 points
