MLB: Will Mark Teixeira Make It into the Hall of Fame?

Jason AmareldJun 6, 2011

After blasting two more home runs in Sunday's game, Mark Teixeira tied Hall of Fame legend Ted Williams for ninth-most home runs by any player through his first nine seasons with 293.

If Teixeira avoids any unforeseen injury, he will continues to pass more players on the career home run list, where he currently ranks tied for No. 133 all-time.

Over those nine seasons he has  817 R, 947 RBI, 293 HR, 310 2B, and a .284 career BA. He also has a career .913 OPS and .376 OBP.

Mark recently turned 31 and looks in the best shape of his career. He is currently second in MLB with 18 HR and is also fifth in the AL in RBI. He is on pace for 50 HR and 117 RBI this season.

Mark also plays unbelievable first base. He is a four-time Gold Glove winner and won the Silver Slugger Award in 2004, 2005 and 2009. He is also a two-time All-Star, having been selected in 2005 and 2009.

Teixeira is also a world champion, winning it all in 2009 as the New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series.

Mark's achievements have been overshadowed by seemingly future Hall of Fame first baseman Albert Pujols. His career line is 1,228 R, 1,228 RBI, 421 HR, 433 2B, and a .329 career BA.

Remember, this line is over 11 seasons. So if you take two years off of his line, Mark and Albert are a lot closer in career number than people may have thought.

Playing first base also gives both Mark and Albert the longevity it takes to pass some of the legends on the all-time offensive category numbers. Expect both of them to play into their late 30s if they can avoid a major injury.

Teixeira combines offense, defense and a winning attitude that makes him not only one of the best first baseman in the game today, but one of the greatest players in the game period. That man loves to compete.

It may be a little too early to tell if Mark Teixeira will be accompanying some of his teammates like Derek Jeter in Cooperstown, but if he continues to progress and get better his statistics will continue to climb, giving the people in Cooperstown a lot to think about when the name Mark Teixeira comes across their desk.

Will Mark Teixeira make it to Cooperstown? Sound off...
