Andre Berto Threatened by Prescott While Accusing Ortiz of Doping

Justin TateJun 1, 2011

Today, 27-year-old former world welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-1, 21 KO's) was at the center of two stories from two different sources.

First, Boxing Scene was advised that Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19 KO's) wants to move up to welterweight (147 lbs) to face Berto.

Prescott is known for his first-round knockout of Amir Khan (25-1, 17 KO's) back in September 2008.

That fight was at lightweight (135 lbs). Prescott and Khan have recently campaigned at junior welterweight (140 lbs).

Prescott had this to say:

"

"I've come to the realization that Amir Khan will never want a piece of me again. I'm willing to move up to 147 to knock Berto's ass out."

"

Prescott's co-manager Luis DeCubas Jr. acknowledged that the fight would be possible seeing that both fighters (Prescott and Berto) are promoted by Lou DiBella.

In other news reported by Fight Hype, Berto accused Victor Ortiz (28-2-2, 22 KO's) of using performance-enhancing drugs according to his Twitter account

Berto left the followingly messages:

"

"@Andre Berto: Yo this is the main question I get from fans and boxing people. Did they drug test Ortiz?

@Andre Berto: Let me clear the air now!! Your right there is a reason why Ortiz had so much energy, a reason he could take heavy shots and keep ticking

@Andre Berto: N there is a reason he came into the ring 165 pounds. I know people close to him and his camp and I know exactly what he was taking

@Andre Berto: It wasn't Flintstones vitamins!! But it is what it is I should of beat him anyways but it wasn't me that night. Ortiz wasn't him either lol

@Andre Berto: Lesson learned time to forget about the past and look forward to the future."

"

Then undefeated super middleweight (168 lbs) prospect Anthony Dirrell (20-0, 17 KO's), brother of Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13 KO's), voiced his agreement with Berto on Twitter:

"

"@Anthonydirrell: AndreBerto I know what what he was taking too"

"

Berto finished out his Twitter rant with an optimistic outlook:

"

"@Andre Berto: Never bitter never sour Ortiz fought a good fight and got the W. I take my L like a man n come back better Iam lookin forward 2 the rematch"

"

Victor Ortiz also got a good word in on Berto's Twitter rant as well:

"

"@VICIOUSortiz: Berto needs to stop I'll have to hurt him again. Me I guess im not too bad for not havin a heart or courage ;)"

"

Ortiz is referencing the wide-spread belief that Ortiz had no heart following his knockout defeat at the hands of Marcos Maidana (30-2, 27 KO's).

Ortiz has since reversed many of those opinions with his heart-racing do-or-die victory over Berto, yet apparently (like in most of sports) not everyone is convinced he did it naturally.
