WWE Video: Watch the WWE Superstars Give Edge a Final Sendoff On SmackDown

Adam WellsApr 15, 2011

Fans of WWE are well aware that tonight will be a very emotional edition of Smackdown.

Edge will relinquish the championship in an emotionally charged speech during the show, and the main event has him celebrating in the ring with his real-life best friend, Christian, after Christian wins a battle royal to earn a championship match at Extreme Rules.

WWE kept the cameras rolling after the original show was done taping and the entire locker room came out on stage to give Edge a proper sendoff that he didn't get on Raw.

This particular video picks up as Triple H is coming out to the ring to give Edge a hug. After that, Edge gives another emotional and very heartfelt speech, as he did on Raw and earlier on Smackdown.

It's strange to think of Smackdown without him as champion, just because you're so used to seeing and he was still in the prime of his career.

I will admit that I wasn't the biggest Edge fan in the world. I always thought that he was a talented worker and a very gifted performer, but I just wasn't as big a fan of his as I was, say, Shawn Michaels.

But as I look back on the work that Edge did in the ring, I realize how much I didn't appreciate what he was.

He was never the biggest star that the company had, but he was probably the most consistent performer that they have had since 2006. Oftentimes, when he was on a pay-per-view he had one of the two best matches on the show.

His last match with Alberto Del Rio at Wrestlemania was a really solid offering, which looks better when you consider the physical pain he was dealing with.

Edge deserved a first-class sendoff, and to WWE's credit, they made sure that he got one.
