View from the Blues, Volume Seven: More Roster Additions and a Charity Match

As the countdown to the 2011 USL PRO season continued, Los Angeles Blues manager/vice president Charlie Naimo continued to assemble his lineup of players to contend for the crown.

One of the new additions, according to the LA Blues' Silviano Barron, is former Los Angeles Galaxy defender Mike Randolph.

Randolph spent two seasons with the Galaxy and one season with the Los Angeles Legends of the USL Premier Development League. He joins Josh Tudela and Israel Sesay as Blues players with Galaxy connections.

Randolph began his career with the Portland Timbers, formerly of the old USL First Division (now a member of Major League Soccer), in 2006 and was a Rookie of the Year finalist.

"Mike is a great addition to our group and fits our system perfectly," Naimo said. "He is also another seasoned professional that will help us navigate a long season.”

Other players who will be joining the Blues include Chukwudi Chijindu, a forward on loan from Chivas USA, and defender Leonard Griffin, who signed with the Blues after agreeing to terms on a loan transfer from USL PRO side Orlando City.

“Both players have MLS experience, which will be invaluable,” said Naimo of Chijindu and Griffin. “Leonard is the final piece we have been looking for in our back line, while Chuk can provide electricity up top."

Finally, the Blues announced this week that they will be taking on the Orange County All-Stars in a charity match, with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross of Orange County for relief efforts in Japan.

“We’re excited to be hosting this match against the OC All Stars,” said Blues General Manager Alyse LaHue. “It gives our fans an opportunity to see us for the first time at Titan Stadium, but more importantly allows our organization and fans to contribute to the charitable efforts of the terrible devastation in Japan via our local Red Cross of Orange County.”

Kickoff at Titan Stadium, on the campus of California State University, Fullerton, is scheduled for Saturday April 2nd at 6:00 PM PT/9:00 PM ET.
