BREAK IT DOWN:
The Eight-Man Tag Match of The C.O.R.R.E (Wade Barrett, Ezekiel Jackson, Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater) to take on the team of The Big Show, Kane, Santino Marella and Vladamir Kozlov.
What we have here is experience, power and size versus youth, eagerness and attitude.
The team of Show, Kane, Vlad and Santino—what we'll refer to as "SKVS"—obviously brings size to the ring. With a combined weight of 1,337, two of the monsters that make up this team weigh in at over 300lbs easily. One of them, guess which, clocks in at nearly 500lbs. The smallest guy on the team is still a hearty 227 pounds.
While they may not be a team of chiseled Adonis' (maybe Adrian Adonis), the power that comes along with this girth is incredible. If all four men were to deliver and move from the top rope at the same time, we better hope the stadium is still standing—not just the ring.
On top of that giant mountain is a whole lot of Gold.
Vlad—one-time tag champ
Santino—one-time tag champ and two-time IC champ
Kane—one-time IC, one-time WWF, one-time ECW, one-time WHC, nine-time tag champ, one-time harcdore, and one MIB
Show—one-time ECW, five-time WORLD TAG, one-time WWE TAG, one-time US CHAMP, two-time WWE CHAMP, three-time HARDCORE CHAMP
All that gold is combined with years of experience: Big Show is 39, Kane is 43, Koslov is 38 and Santino is 32. But will that experience just equal age when it comes against a team of guys in which none are over 33?
The C.O.R.R.E—a.k.a. old Nexus plus Jackson—other than not being able to spell the word core, size up to a combined weight of 983 pounds. While each of them are 6 feet or taller, and probably no one you'd want to bump into in a dark alley, they will definitely lose out on the size factor versus team SKVS.
Is youth, however, the factor that will push The C.O.R.R.E. on top. Jackson is the oldest at 33. Barrett and Gabriel are both 30. Slater is the young 27-year-old of the group.
Or, will this just spell to a group of rookies?
Sure, Gabriel and Slater have held the new tag team belts three times. But being the fans we are, we know they didn't earn them the best way possible at least on one of those occasions. And one was with the assistance of John Cena.
Barrett, while in the top spot on TV and at PPVs for quite some time, never got the gold until just recently. He just grabbed the IC belt from poor Kofi Kingston, who does not look like he'll be participating at Mania. Ezekiel Jackson, however, did hold top Gold—at least until they discontinued it back in February of 2010. Jackson was the last holder of the ECW championship.
PREDICTION:
In looking at this match, its participants and knowing what's been happening on Smackdown, you would automatically think that this is going to be a feel-good win for the good guys—that team SKVS will hold their hands high on the grandest stage over the arrogant group The C.O.R.R.E.
However, this is WrestleMania and no one on team SKVS is in need of a push or a win. In fact, that team is so randomly thrown together that, if they win, it would mean really nothing come the day after Mania. If The CORRE were to win, this most certainly would feed their ego, support the fact that they are legitimate champions and continue a storyline for a challenge against the tag belts—maybe even a story of Big Show versus Barrett for the IC Belt.
It's also been rumored that Jackson will show up at some point with the ECW belt—mabye even rekindling it a new Hardcore belt and giving the C.O.R.R.E all gold.
The winner: The C.O.R.R.E—to feed into the storyline of the coming season, and to establish four very young men as the next generation of big-time players.
HERE COMES THE BOOM
The BOOM factor in this match? The finishers. My personal call is that we will see at least five of them. And, of course, humor.
Friday night, we got to see Kane participate in the "silly hi-jinks," along with Show and the others, as he joined in on the invisible trombone to celebrate Santino's victory over Gabriel.
As for the finishers:
Big Show's knockout punch will be there. My guess it goes to Slater.
Kane's choke slam has to be in attendance to Gabriel.
Barrett's Wasteland—my guess is to the monster Kane.
Gabriel's 360-splash (which I can't stand. WE GET IT, IT HURTS YOUR RIBS!) probably to Kozlov.
And we must get a WrestleMania sized Cobra either to Barrett or the big man Jackson. In fact Cobras for everybody.
I'll be doing these articles for each match and more leading up to Mania on Sunday. It is a giant party at my house (you're not invited). We're going to have WWE food, signs and more. Watch here on Bleacher, or over at www.theboompage.com for more WrestleMania....Mania.
BOOM.
