UFC Fight Night 24 Results: Will Dan Hardy Be Cut After Three Straight Losses?

Sal DeRoseMar 26, 2011

Dan Hardy lost a big fight tonight against Anthony "Rumble" Johnson by unanimous decision—and it couldn't have been worse timing.

After becoming the UFC's No. 1 welterweight contender, he has now gone on to lose three straight fights, including one against Georges St-Pierre for the welterweight title.

Hardy put in a lackluster performance tonight in Seattle at UFC Fight Night 24 after promising a war with Johnson.

“I’m not planning to go to the ground with Anthony,” Hardy stated during a conference call this week. “I’m planning to send him down on his own.”

Rumble's smart usage of his advantage on the ground prevented any possibility of a war between the two fighters—and now the UFC faces a possible decision to cut the Englishman.

They won't cut him, though. Hardy's British roots will keep him in the Octagon for at least one more fight—possibly a fight in his homeland, England.

The loss to GSP for the welterweight title shouldn't be held against Hardy, who had seven straight wins before losing to GSP. Hardy is now 4-3 inside the UFC.

To the UFC, Hardy is a valuable asset. The UFC wants to expand and make itself marketable to places all over the world. Hardy is a valuable marketing asset towards England.

When the UFC makes an attempt to expand and hold a card in a different country, they try to bring in fighters from that region to pump up the event and make it more marketable.

To continue making the fights in England marketable, they need a fighter like Hardy.

He's the UFC's second most marketable fighter in England, after they cut Paul Daley.

It also helps that Hardy is a great fighter who has a career record of 23-9 with one no contest. Hardy always comes to each fight bringing heat.

So to answer anyone who might wonder if he'll be cut, the answer is no. Hardy has at least one more fight in him, possibly two.
