Wrestling commentator Michael Cole stirred up some controversy Saturday morning when he tweeted the following regarding Josh Matthews:
As expected, he received a ton of backlash and later deleted the tweet along with the following message:
"I apologize to any and all who were offended by my tweet toward young Josh Mathews. It was obviously not meant the way it was taken. I was not ordered to apologize I said I am sorry because I am. Now can I get back to being a character again please?"
You'd think that that'd be the end of it, right? Ohhhhh no. That was only the beginning. Michael Cole's tweets later made their way on TMZ and later on in the day, a WWE representative announced that Cole has been sent to a GLAAD training session.
Michael Cole has been sent to a training session for a simple slip of the tongue? Come on. What's next? Is he going to be sent to rehab? I mean, realistically, what are they going to train him to do at this training session?
I do not condone using this slur in any way and I personally don't use it. Furthermore, I agree with the fact that Cole should have been more careful about saying something like that. However, Cole clearly did not mean this as a homosexual slur, considering that Josh Matthews is a married man. I believe that this has gotten way more attention than it should have.
