Greatest WrestleMania Match Tournament: Round 3 (Austin and Michaels Bracket)

Eric KanesJun 7, 2018

What's up, ladies and gentlemen? My name is Eric Kanes and I welcome you to Round 3 of both the Austin and Michaels Brackets in the "Greatest WrestleMania Match of All Time" Tournament.

Now, in this round, we had three blow-outs and one matchup that almost ended up being a clean sweep. However, something tells me that this next round will have some very close matchups as we get our Elite Eight underway.

Which matches from Round 2 made it to Round 3? Let's find out:

Austin Bracket

1. Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels (WM 25) (95.7 percent)

vs.

2. Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart (WM 10) (4.3 percent)

3. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Benoit (WM 20) (87.2 percent)

vs.

5. Batista vs. Undertaker (WM 23) (12.8 percent)

Michaels Bracket

3. Diesel vs. Shawn Michaels (WM 11) (12.5 percent)

vs.

8. Edge & Christian vs. The Hardy Boyz vs. The Dudley Boyz (WM 17) (87.5 percent)

4. Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart (WM 13) (62.5 percent)

vs.

7. The Rock vs. Hollywood Hogan (37.5 percent)

My thoughts?

Although this round was full of blow-outs, the results seem about right. The four out of eight best matches won. It's not that the other matches were terrible; these matches were just that much better. There's really not much else to say for this round as it speaks for itself.

Anyway, that's Round 2. Let's move on to Round 3.

1. Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels (WM 25)

1 of 5

The 2009 Match of the Year saw the two longest-tenured performers in WWE face off at the 25th anniversary of WrestleMania.

The result was a show-stealing match thanks to some of the best nearfall sequences ever and that one awesome facial expression from the Undertaker where he was like, "What the hell?"

This was a classic in every sense of the word, and this turned out to be one of the greatest matches in wrestling history—not just WrestleMania history.

vs. 3. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Benoit (WM 20)

2 of 5

The best triple threat match ever? A lot of people would say yes.

This was Benoit's best shot at winning the world title, and he'd have to do it against two main-event regulars.

This was Benoit's big breakthrough after many years as a midcarder, and he had a hot New York crowd behind him every step of the way.

4. Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart (WM 13)

3 of 5

This match had everything that is good about the wrestling business: two great competitors, a tremendous storyline, an extremely high workrate, plenty of crowd heat, one of the greatest blade jobs ever, and the greatest double turn in the history of the business.

This is one of the greatest matches in wrestling history, if not the greatest match.

Vs. 8. Edge & Christian Vs. the Hardy Boyz Vs. the Dudley Boyz (WM 17)

4 of 5

This was the third match in the series, so there was nothing they could do that was unseen before, but they found ways to make it different.

The addition of Rhyno, Spike and Lita added something good to the match that wasn’t there before. The spots in this match were once again awesome as all six guys, plus their three friends, busted their asses to put on a great show.

As usual, Jeff Hardy took the most insane bumps with the Swanton onto two people as well as the spear that he took from Edge while hanging onto the belts, which is one of the sickest bumps I've ever seen in any match. It's amazing that he could even walk afterwards.

One other thing that stood out was the chemistry that these guys already had by the time of this match. They had everything planned out perfectly and it worked in every way possible.

Due to that fact, this is personally my favorite match of the three original TLCs.

Final Bracket

5 of 5

In case you missed it, here is the final Round 3 Austin-Michaels Bracket:

1. Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels (WM 25)

vs.

3. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Benoit (WM 20)

4. Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart (WM 13)

vs.

8. Edge & Christian vs. The Hardy Boyz vs. The Dudley Boyz (WM 17)

And that shall conclude the Round 3 Austin-Michaels Bracket.

There are 24 hours left to vote on the Round 2 Rock Bracket which, in my opinion, is the most star-studded bracket of all. You can vote on it right here.

The Henry Bracket has been the closest Round 2 Bracket so far. It is so close to the point where one vote would make a huge difference. There are 24 hours left to vote. You can cast your vote and possibly decide the Greatest WM Match of All Time right here.

This Round 3 Bracket will be open for 96 hours.

I will be right back here tomorrow with the RAW Review and the Round 3 Rock/Henry Bracket but until then, I'm out!
