WrestleMania 27: 22 Days and Counting–King of Kings DVD
In my continuing countdown to WrestleMania 27 I am trying to do something WWE related every day until the big event. So far I've played the WWE DVD board game, 2nd edition, and ordered the 3rd one which should be by here next week. I've posted my review of Chris Jericho's new book Undisputed and now on to my third item–the HHH DVD box set.
Triple H, The King of Kings, There is Only One, the 2 Disc Deluxe edition was released in 2008 and is filled with about 13 matches approximately six hours worth of HHH goodness on the whole set. The DVD starts with HHH of 1995 in a match with John Crystal when Hunter is known as Hunter Hearst Helmsley. This was when he was portraying himself as the aristocrat type character, complete with ruffled shirt. The Pedigree was still his finisher then, but it's where it got it's name. Hunter's character was supposed to be a snob, therefore he came from a better 'pedigree' of genetics.

Triple H Responds to Fan Criticism 🤷
It's interesting to watch his character develop from this snobby, classy character to the leather and jean jacket wearing Triple H. But what's even more interesting is that his style never really changed in the ring–a bruiser with a tacticians head he is able to beat up his opponent physically and mentally. H has always been able to blend the old school moves made famous by the likes of his idol Ric Flair and the other classic superstars of the 70s and 80s along with a new modern twist to several of them as well. His Running Knee, his Clothesline, and even his style of punching are all delivered with such precision and elegance its like watching a brutal ballet.
My personal favorites on the DVD set are his matches with Mick Foley.
With him and Foley, it's just two total opposite ends of the spectrum clashing into one another. Foley the heavyset, well lets just say it, fat, brawler who can take a beating versus the tactician with the body builders physique. Their battles for the title on Raw and their Hell in a Cell match are legendary. The pedigree on top of the cage, the all our brutal beating that took place made the match something that is long missed in the PG family sensitive days of today. One of the best moments in their rivalry was when Mick Foley revealed that he would not be facing HHH in the match, instead it would be his other persona Cactus Jack. If it weren't for HHH the WWE Universe of that time would have had no idea why it was different for Mrs. Foley's baby boy to say he was calling on one of his other personalities. Triple H sold the fear, the respect and the down right anger of having to face Cactus Jack instead of Foley as if it were a legitimately different person.
I'm, of course, not selling short his matches against long time friend Shawn Michaels or his battles with Cena, Batista or even Stone Cold Steve Austin. The best thing about HHH is that you can say he's fought them all, having long standing feuds with nearly every big name talent.
I'm hoping he has a few more years left in him and rides that train as long as he can. His reign as King has nothing to do with whom he was friends with, whom he married or what he has done outside the ring. If you disagree grab this DVD set and watch the Cerebral Assassin at work and try and debate otherwise.
Triple H vs. Undertaker at WrestleMania will be one for the next DVD set as the streak is on the line against the man who's done it all. A lot of people have said that they think Cena would end the streak, but I'm putting my money on The Game.
